The Pacific whiteleg shrimp Penaeus (Litopenaeus) vannamei is a highly relevant species for the world's aquaculture development, for which an incomplete genome is available in public databases. In this work, PacBio long-reads from 14 publicly available genomic libraries (131.2 Gb) were mined to improve the reference genome assembly.

Article Synopsis
  • Transcriptional response regulators (TRRs) are key components that help bacteria adapt to their environments by mediating cellular changes in response to signals.
  • The genetic diversity of TRRs in bacteria is influenced by their habitats and lifestyles, suggesting that bacterial evolution is shaped by natural selection.
  • In the study of the Harveyi clade of Vibrio, it was found that TRR gene changes occur through a mix of genomic expansion and reduction, influenced by both natural selection and random genetic drift.
