Article Synopsis
  • - The research on M cells, which are specialized cells in the immune system, faces challenges due to the absence of a universal marker for reliable identification.
  • - Many existing studies struggle to confirm whether their findings truly involve M cells or if other undetected factors are influencing their results.
  • - This review aims to assess current M cell markers used in research and suggests a standardized approach for identifying M cells in future studies, potentially enhancing the quality of published work in this area.

The present study investigated the effects of conditional deletion of ephrinB1 in osteoprogenitor cells driven by the Osterix (Osx) promoter, on skeletal integrity in a murine model of ovariectomy-induced (OVX) osteoporosis. Histomorphometric and μCT analyses revealed that loss of ephrinB1 in sham Osx:cre-ephrinB1 mice caused a reduction in trabecular bone comparable to OVX Osx:Cre mice, which was associated with a significant reduction in bone formation rates and decrease in osteoblast numbers. Interestingly, these observations were not exacerbated in OVX Osx:cre-ephrinB1 mice.
