Article Synopsis
  • The study examines fluctuations in HDV-RNA levels in patients with chronic hepatitis delta (CHD) to understand how it relates to other hepatitis B markers.
  • Approximately 25% of the patients experienced a significant decrease in HDV-RNA over an average follow-up period of 5.6 years, with 20% achieving undetectable levels.
  • The research suggests that declines in HDV-RNA are linked to improvements in liver enzyme levels, hinting at potential new treatment strategies for CHD.

Background: Antiviral treatment of patients with chronic hepatitis B (CHB) in the grey zone of treatment comands risk management in order to optimize the health outcome. In this sense, the identification of HBV mutants related with an increased risk of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) could be useful to identify subpopulations with potential indication of antiviral treatment.

Aim: To analyze the prevalence/persistence of hepatitis B virus (HBV) preS and basal core promoter (BCP)/precore/core variants associated to HCC development in CHB patients in the grey zone.

Background: Omeprazole (OME) is a proton pump inhibitor with a 58% bioavailability after a single oral dose. It is subject to marked interindividual variations and significant drug-drug interactions. The authors developed a simple and rapid method based on liquid chromatography in tandem with mass spectrometry with solid phase extraction and isotope-labeled internal standard to monitor plasma levels of OME in pharmacokinetics and drug-drug interaction studies.
