Background: Human Bocaviruses (HBoV) can cause acute respiratory tract infections. High coinfection rates cloud its pathogenicity. This study sought to describe the clinical features of HBoV1 disease in children and adults with Influenza-like illness (ILI), exploring associations between viral load, clinical features, and seasonality.

Background: An automated hand-hygiene monitoring system (AHHMS) was implemented in October 2019 at the (HIMFG), a tertiary pediatric referral hospital, in four of the hospital wards with the highest rates of Healthcare Associated Infections (HAIs). The clinical and economic impact of this system had not yet been assessed prior to this study. This study aimed to evaluate if the AHHMS is a cost-effective alternative in reducing HAIs in the HIMFG.

Recent multidrug resistance in has favoured the adaptation and dissemination of worldwide high-risk strains. In June 2018, 15 strains isolated from patients and a contaminated multi-dose meropenem vial were characterized to assess their association to an outbreak in a Mexican paediatric hospital. The strains were characterized by antibiotic susceptibility profiling, virulence factors' production, and biofilm formation.

Health personnel (HP) have been universally recognized as especially susceptible to COVID-19. In Mexico, our home country, HP has one of the highest death rates from the disease. From the beginning of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, an office for initial attention for HP and a call center were established at a COVID-19 national reference pediatric hospital, aimed at early detection of COVID-19 cases and stopping local transmission.

Article Synopsis
  • Emergency services (ES) are a vital part of modern healthcare systems, and this study aimed to explore how sociodemographic and clinical factors influence their usage among different populations in Spain.
  • The study analyzed data from the 2017 National Health Survey of Spain, focusing on three groups: young individuals (15-24), the elderly (75+ with multiple health issues), and the general population, employing descriptive analyses and logistic regression models.
  • Findings revealed that elderly individuals with multiple pathologies used ES the most (41.1%), while young people tended to seek help at private centers, with significant factors affecting ES usage including gender, social class, and health conditions.

Background: Heart failure (HF) is a serious health-care problem. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of the first acute episode of decompensated HF that requires a hospitalization on the survival of newly diagnosed cases of HF with follow-up for 5 years in primary care (PC).

Methods: This was a longitudinal observational study of a retrospective cohort of patients with information extracted from electronic medical records of PC.

Background: Effective therapeutics for respiratory viruses are needed. Early data suggest that nitazoxanide (NTZ) may be beneficial for treating acute respiratory viral illness.

Methods: From March 2014 through March 2017, a double-blind, placebo-controlled trial was conducted in 260 participants ≥1 year old hospitalized with influenza-like illness at 6 hospitals in Mexico.

Introduction: Healthcare personnel (HP) are frequently exposed to influenza and can be a source of transmission to patients and other workers, resulting in high-cost outbreaks for healthcare institutions.

Objectives: To analyse the presentation of HP with influenza-like illness (ILI) and the differences between individuals with influenza confirmed by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and those with a negative test. The secondary objective was to evaluate the duration of symptomatology and work absenteeism as well as the vaccination rate of HP at a paediatric referral hospital.

Objective: Heart failure (HF) is an important public health problem due to its increasing prevalence, and the decompensation associated with hospital admission represents an increased risk of death. The objective of this study was to compare several methods to model the variable hospitalizations and to determine the effect of factors associated with hospital admissions in incident cases of HF.

Methods: Study of a retrospective cohort of patients with information extracted from electronic medical records of PC was performed.

Several microorganisms produce nosocomial infections (NIs), among which Pseudomonas aeruginosa stands out as an opportunist pathogen with the capacity to develop multiresistance to first-choice antibiotics. From 2007 to 2013, forty-six NIs produced by P. aeruginosa were detected at a pediatric tertiary care hospital in Mexico with a significant mortality rate (17.

Background: Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a leading etiological agent of acute respiratory tract infections and hospitalizations in children. However, little information is available regarding RSV infections in Latin American countries, particularly among adult patients.

Objective: To describe the epidemiology of RSV infection and to analyze the factors associated with severe infections in children and adults in Mexico.

Objective: To describe survival of patients with chronic heart failure (HF) followed up in primary care (PC) and analyse the effect of sex, age, clinical and health services factors, and income levels on survival.

Design: Longitudinal observational study of a retrospective cohort of patients with information extracted from electronic medical records.

Setting: PC Area 7 of the Community of Madrid.
