[Perception of students of a public university on the Education Program for Work in Health].

This study sought to analyze the Education Program for Work in Health from the perspective of students at a public university in Belo Horizonte, State of Minas Gerais, in their first year and its impact on the students' qualification. It is a prospective cohort study with students who participated on this program, and the data was collected by a structured and self-applied questionnaire, during the sixth and tenth months of the program, with sociodemographic questions, methodology, aims and impact of the program. The majority reported that the program's proposed aims were attained, especially interdisciplinary work and academic research focused on the Unified Health System's needs.

The Chapeu-de-couro (Echinodorus macrophyllus (Kunth) Micheli) is a native plant from Brazil, which has been mainly used in medicinal application being a potent antirheumatic and diuretic, in the production of soft drinks, and also in the ornamentation of aquariums. In this paper, the metals and metalloids for the leaves of chapeu-de-couro collected in the Paraguacu River from the city Cachoeira, Bahia State, Brazil, was determined and evaluated using multivariate analysis. The samples were digested using nitric acid and hydrogen peroxide and were analyzed using inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry.

[The nursing process in the opinion of the nursing staff of a teaching hospital].

The aim of this study was to describe the nursing professionals' opinion on the nursing process, in order to base the actions of the implementation of the process in our institution. This is a qualitative study, carried out during an action research with the nursing staff of a pediatric teaching hospital. The nursing process is designed as a tool to organize care and prescribe nursing care.

Anesthesia in patient with lead poisoning: case report.

Projectiles retained in the body may result in increased levels of plasma lead with numerous clinical implications, particularly neurological. We report a case of a symptomatic patient, undiagnosed, whose diagnosis was made during the preanesthesia evaluation.

Sulfidated TiO2 nanotubes: a potential 3D cathode material for Li-ion micro batteries.

In this work, self-organized titania nanotubes are sulfidated by an annealing treatment to produce TiOxSy nanotubes. Morphological, structural and electrochemical analyses show that this 3D nanostructured electrode is a potential cathode material for Li-ion microbatteries.

Ethanolic extract of roots from Arctium lappa L. accelerates the healing of acetic acid-induced gastric ulcer in rats: Involvement of the antioxidant system.

Background And Aims: Apomictic plants are less dependent on pollinator services and able to occupy more diverse habitats than sexual species. However, such assumptions are based on temperate species, and comparable evaluation for species-rich Neotropical taxa is lacking. In this context, the Melastomataceae is a predominantly Neotropical angiosperm family with many apomictic species, which is common in the Campos Rupestres, endemism-rich vegetation on rocky outcrops in central Brazil.

Effect of diethylcarbamazine on chronic hepatic inflammation induced by alcohol in C57BL/6 mice.

Some pharmacological studies showed that diethylcarbamazine (DEC) interferes with the arachidonic acid metabolism, acting as an anti-inflammatory drug. The chronic alcohol consumption activates the hepatic inflammatory response associated to T-cell activation and overproduction of pro-inflammatory cytokines. The present work analyzed the anti-inflammatory effect of DEC on hepatic cells of alcoholic mice.

Monocyte-derived dendritic cells from breast cancer patients are biased to induce CD4+CD25+Foxp3+ regulatory T cells.

DCs orchestrate immune responses contributing to the pattern of response developed. In cancer, DCs may play a dysfunctional role in the induction of CD4(+)CD25(+)Foxp3(+) Tregs, contributing to immune evasion. We show here that Mo-DCs from breast cancer patients show an altered phenotype and induce preferentially Tregs, a phenomenon that occurred regardless of DC maturation stimulus (sCD40L, cytokine cocktail, TNF-α, and LPS).

Homogeneity and stability studies during the preparation of a laboratory reference material of soy leaves for the determination of metals.

The homogeneity and stability of metals were tested in a candidate laboratory reference material of soy leaves. Inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectrometry was used to quantify calcium, magnesium, manganese, iron, zinc, copper, and vanadium. This paper presents the validation of a system for sample digestion using a digester block/cold finger to determine the lead content in vegetables by electrothermal atomic absorption spectrometry (ETAAS). After mineralization, lead contents were determined by ETAAS using a calibration curve based on aqueous standards prepared in 2.60 M nitric acid solutions containing 5 microg ammonium phosphate as chemical modifier.

Many microtubule- and actin-based molecular motors are involved in axonal/dendritic transport. Myosin-Va is present in the honey bee Apis mellifera nervous system of the larvae and adult castes and subcastes.

Intussusception risk and health benefits of rotavirus vaccination in Mexico and Brazil.

Background: Because postlicensure surveillance determined that a previous rotavirus vaccine, RotaShield, caused intussusception in 1 of every 10,000 recipients, we assessed the association of the new monovalent rotavirus vaccine (RV1) with intussusception after routine immunization of infants in Mexico and Brazil.

Methods: We used case-series and case-control methods to assess the association between RV1 and intussusception. Infants with intussusception were identified through active surveillance at 69 hospitals (16 in Mexico and 53 in Brazil), and age-matched infants from the same neighborhood were enrolled as controls.

[The experiences of relatives of children hospitalized in an emergency care service].

Childhood is a phase that requires much attention from the family and the health service, because family members, besides depending on relatives, are vulnerable to the environment. The objective of this study was to describe the experiences of relatives of children hospitalized in an emergency care service, discuss on how those experiences affect the everyday life of the family and report the aspects that interfere in the nursing care. This descriptive study was performed using a qualitative approach, and was developed in a private emergency hospital.

Acinetobacter soli as a cause of bloodstream infection in a neonatal intensive care unit.

Acinetobacter soli is a new bacterial species described from forest soil. Five cases of bloodstream infection caused by A. soli clonal isolates are reported here for the first time.

[Institutional violence: routine experiences of the nursing team].

The purpose of this qualitative study was to describe the experience of a professional nursing team exposed to institutional violence, to discuss how these experiences influence their routine lives and their service organization as well as learn about the events which provoke these violent attitudes. The subjects of this study were eleven professionals of the nursing team. Data was collected through interviews and analyzed by using thematic analysis, organized in categories: violent situations involving the nursing staff, the influence of violence in the workplace and service organization and contributing causes of violent attitudes against the nursing team.

Phthiraptera (Arthropoda, Insecta) in Gallus gallus from isolated and mixed backyard rearing systems.

The objectives were to identify the species of chewing lice (Mallophaga) at different body sites in chickens (Gallus gallus), in isolated and mixed rearing systems, and to determine the dynamics and structure of the louse populations collected. The prevalences were 100 and 35% for chickens in the isolated and mixed systems, respectively. The species recorded were: Menopon gallinae, Menacanthus stramineus, Goniodes gigas, Goniocotes gallinae and Lipeurus caponis.

Inconsistencies in recommendations on oral hygiene practices for children by professional dental and paediatric organisations in ten countries.

Background: Some of the basic dental health practices that are recommended to the public by professionals are not evidence based. Incorrect oral health messages may adversely affect children's oral health behaviours.

Aim: To identify and list the recommendations concerning children's oral hygiene practices provided by dental and paediatric organisations, and to assess how these recommendations relate to the scientific evidence currently available.

Static secondary ion mass spectrometry for the surface characterisation of individual nanofibres of polycaprolactone functionalised with an antibacterial additive.

Electrospinning (ES) of polymer solutions generates non-woven webs of nanofibres. The fibre diameter ranges between 10 nm and 1 μm depending on the operating conditions. Surface functionalisation can be performed by the use of suitable additives.
