Methods: This experimental, prospective, randomized cross-over study, investigated thirty adults (15 women and 15 men) with behavioral dysphonia (vocal complaints, altered voice on auditory-perceptual evaluation, vocal nodules or mucosal thickening, and incomplete glottic closure). The outcome variables analyzed were auditory-perceptual analysis, acoustic analysis (voice quality characteristics), and self-reported intensities of vocal and laryngeal symptoms.
The aim of this study was to investigate the frequency, antimicrobial sensitivity profile, and genetic characteristics of nosocomial strains of extended-spectrum β-lactamase (ESBL)-producing isolated from inpatients at a teaching hospital in Brazil. The bacterial identification, phenotypic detection of ESBL, and antimicrobial susceptibility profile were performed by the VITEK 2 automated system. In this study, we evaluated the influence of distinct bacterial growth media on detection of carbapenemase hydrolysis by matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization-time of flight mass spectrometry. False-negative results were observed for OXA-25-, OXA-26-, and OXA-72-producing Acinetobacter baumannii isolates grown on MacConkey agar medium. The other culture media showed 100% sensitivity and 100% specificity for detecting carbapenemase.

Methods: Female mutant mice with mutation in the inner mitochondrial membrane peptidase 2-like protein at 3 and 18 months of age were used. Renal fibrosis was analyzed using classic fibrosis score, Masson's trichrome staining, and analysis of profibrotic markers using real time polymerase chain reaction (superoxide dismutase 1, metalloproteinase-9, erythropoietin, transforming growth factor beta), and immunostaining (fibroblasts and Type IV collagen).
Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate whether chronotropic incompetence (CI), the inability to reach 85% of the maximal predicted heart rate during exercise, affects the assessment of myocardial ischemia and prognosis in patients undergoing myocardial perfusion single-photon emission computed tomography (MPS).
Methods: Patients undergoing exercise/rest MPS were studied. Those taking drugs with negative chronotropic properties were excluded.

Third ventricle injections of the H1 and H2 receptor antagonists, mepyramine (50, 100, 200 and 400 nmol) and cimetidine (100, 200 and 400 nmol), were unable to modify water intake induced by water deprivation and sodium depletion. Salt intake elicited by water deprivation and sodium depletion was reduced by the central administration of mepyramine, while intracerebroventricular administration of cimetidine had no effect.
