The populations of the loggerhead turtles, present four main D-loop mitochondrial haplogroups that are distributed across the Indo-Pacific, Mediterranean, and Atlantic oceans. The Southwestern Atlantic (SWA) is one of the Regional Management Units (RMUs) of loggerheads, characterized by unique haplotypes, high nest density, and distinct life history traits. Detecting new D-loop haplogroups is important, particularly endemic ones, as they can enhance our understanding of their life history within the RMUs and contribute to the resolution of mixed stock analysis.

Objective:: To develop and validate a multivariate model to predict coronary artery disease (CAD) based on variables assessed at admission to the coronary care unit (CCU) due to acute chest pain.
Methods:: A total of 470 patients were studied, 370 utilized as the derivation sample and the subsequent 100 patients as the validation sample.
Cancer of the cervix is the most common malignancy diagnosed during pregnancy, with an incidence of 1-10 cases per 10,000 pregnancies. The desire of patients to maintain pregnancy and subsequent fertility is a difficult target to be achieved and should be widely studied, since it depends on the stage of disease, gestational age at diagnosis, and the woman's desire to maintain pregnancy. We describe in this report the case of a pregnant woman with invasive cervical adenocarcinoma in stage IB1 (FIGO) initially treated with neoadjuvant chemotherapy, followed by radical surgery and cesarean section in the same surgical procedure.

Methods: 103 women with ASCUS were reviewed and reclassified: normal/inflammatory, ASCUS, low-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (LSIL), or high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (HSIL). If ASCUS confirmed, it was subclassified in reactive or neoplastic ASCUS, ASC-US, or ASC-H; and Regione Emilia Romagna Screening Protocol.
Purpose: The present study evaluated mRNA expression of interferon-alpha (IFN-alpha), IFN-alpha receptor subunits (IFNAR-1 and IFNAR-2) and an IFN-stimulated gene encoding the enzyme 2',5'-oligoadenylate synthetase (2'5'OAS) in biopsies on patients with varying grades of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN I, II and III).
Methods: Uterine cervix biopsies were collected from women with CIN I, II and III (n = 28) and controls without CIN lesions or human papilloma virus (HPV) infection (n = 17). The presence of high and low-risk HPV DNA was determined using hybrid capture.
This study aimed to evaluate the performance and cost of using polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and hybrid capture in the detection of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) in patients with cytological abnormalities (ASCUS/low-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion--LSIL), and the feasibility of implementing these methods in Brazil's Unified National Health System (SUS). Furthermore, the associations between ASCUS and infectious agents and human papillomavirus (HPV) were evaluated.
Methods: Fifty-eight ASCUS smears were reviewed and sorted; if a diagnosis of ASCUS was confirmed, the smear was classified as PR or PN, and the PSRER group was identified.

We aimed to verify whether vaginal fornix pH is related to endocervical pH and whether or not acid pH could contribute to the prophylactic treatment of vaginal infections. Four groups of healthy women with or without uterus were selected: pre-menopausal (>39 years) and post-menopausal (<61 years). Pre-menopausal non-hysterectomized women were further analysed in proliferative (8-12 days) and secretory phase (18-22 days) of the menstrual cycle.

We describe the case of a patient who reported a 4-month history of edema in the lower right limb, which was accompanied by pain and paresthesia and which progressed to flaccid paraplegia. Two years earlier she had undergone a uterine curettage for hydatidiform mole. Metastases of a choriocarcinoma to the lumbar and sacral segments of the column were diagnosed.
