What is the future of click chemistry in drug discovery and development?

Introduction: The concept of click chemistry was introduced in 2001 as an effective, efficient, and sustainable approach to making functional groups harnessing the thermodynamic properties of a set of known chemical reactions that are based on nature. Some of the most common examples include reactions that produce 1,2,3-triazoles, which have been used with great success in drug discovery and development, and in chemical biology. The reactions unite two molecules quickly and irreversibly, and the reactions can be performed inside living cells, without harming the cell.

Association Between Nutritional Status, Inflammatory Condition, and Prognostic Indexes with Postoperative Complications and Clinical Outcome of Patients with Gastrointestinal Neoplasia.

The aim of this study is to describe and relate nutritional and inflammatory status and prognostic indexes with postoperative complications and clinical outcome of patients with gastrointestinal malignancies. Twenty-nine patients were evaluated; nutritional assessment was carried out by subjective and objective parameters; albumin, pre-albumin, C-reactive protein (CRP), and alpha-1-acid glycoprotein (AGP) were determined. To assess prognosis, the Glasgow scale, the Prognostic Inflammatory Nutritional Index (PINI), and CRP/albumin ratio were used; the clinical outcomes considered were hospital discharge and death.

Electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometry analysis of isopimarane diterpenes from Velloziaceae.

Rationale: The study of natural products by electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometry (ESI-MS/MS) is an important strategy for the characterization of the major fragmentation reactions which can then help to determine the composition of complex mixtures. Application of ESI-MS/MS to a series of isopimarane diterpenes from Velloziaceae allowed the rationalization of their fragmentation mechanisms.

Methods: Velloziaceae diterpenes were isolated by silica gel column chromatography and investigated by ESI-MS/MS analysis.

NUTRITIONAL STATUS AND PERIOPERATIVE FASTING TIME VERSUS COMPLICATIONS AND HOSPITAL STAY OF SURGICAL PATIENTS.

Introduction: many factors can have a negative influence over surgical results, such as a compromised nutritional status and the extension of the perioperative fasting time.

Objective: to evaluate the influence of the nutritional status and the perioperative fasting time over the occurrence of surgical complications and over hospital stay, in patients who have undergone surgery of the gastrointestinal tract and/or abdominal wall, and who were subjected to a nutritional care protocol.

Methods: cohort study, conducted with 84 patients, from June to November 2014.

Objective: To determine the prevalence of alcohol intake and the degree of alcohol-related risk among nursing mothers attended at the Child Care Service of Hospital das Clínicas of Universidade Federal de Pernambuco, Brazil.

Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out with 157 nursing mothers enrolled in the Child Care Program of the university hospital. A questionnaire was administered addressing demographic and socioeconomic variables, type and duration of breastfeeding, smoking habits and consumption of foods considered as appetizers.

We present herein one of the largest cases reported in the literature until now.
