Background: During the past years, a bidirectional relationship has been proved between periodontitis and some systemic disorders, such as diabetes mellitus (DM) and cardiovascular diseases (CVDs). The aim of this study was to compare the general health status between patients with and without periodontitis from a Spanish university dental clinic.
Material And Methods: A retrospective observational case-control study was conducted to achieve the research objective.

- * A questionnaire was distributed to 214 fourth- and fifth-year dental students, focusing on their perceptions of soft tissue examination and the adequacy of their university training for early diagnosis of oral cancer.
- * Results showed that while most students recognized the importance of soft tissue examination and university training, a significant number felt unprepared to diagnose oral cancer themselves.
The objective structured clinical examination (OSCE) is becoming an increasingly established assessment test in dental schools. The use of simulated patients in the OSCE makes the stations more similar to clinical practice. Therefore, the student can show their technical and clinical knowledge, and certainly, their ability to manage the patient.
