Background: Severe bleeding as a result of a major vascular injury is a potentially fatal event commonly observed in the emergency department. Bowel necrosis and gastric ulcers secondary to ischemia are rare due to their rich blood supply. In this case, we present the case of a patient who was treated successfully following rupture of his femoral artery resulting in bowel necrosis and an unusually large gastric ulcer.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study assessed the impact of traumatic brain injury (TBI) from 1990 to 2019, revealing a significant global public health issue with 27.16 million new cases in 2019 and a steady rate of incidence and prevalence over the years.
  • - A secondary analysis of TBI data included factors like age, sex, and region, showing trends in years lived with disability (YLDs) and identifying high-risk areas, particularly in Central and Eastern Europe and Australia.
  • - The findings highlighted that males experienced a higher incidence rate of TBI and that falls and road traffic injuries were leading causes of moderate to severe cases, which comprised over half of all TBIs recorded in 2019. *

Purpose: The study aimed to examine the pattern of motorization and the mortality rate related to road traffic crashes in Zunyi (a city in northern Guizhou province of China) from 2013 to 2022, and to identify the epidemiological characteristics of these crashes with to provide insights that could help improve road safety.

Methods: Data were obtained from the Zunyi traffic management data platform, and the mortality rates were calculated. We deployed various analytical methods, including descriptive analysis, Chi-square test or Fisher's exact test of categorical variable, circular distribution map analysis, and Rayleigh test to characterize the traits of road traffic crashes in the region.

Purpose: Mannitol is one of the first-line drugs for reducing cerebral edema through increasing the extracellular osmotic pressure. However, long-term administration of mannitol in the treatment of cerebral edema triggers damage to neurons and astrocytes. Given that neural stem cell (NSC) is a subpopulation of main regenerative cells in the central nervous system after injury, the effect of mannitol on NSC is still elusive.

Article Synopsis
  • A two-chambered heart is a rare congenital condition, with very few adults reported to have survived into adulthood.
  • An adult female patient with this condition, along with situs inversus totalis, underwent procedures to manage complications from multiple pregnancies, resulting in improved symptoms post-surgery.
  • The study concludes that pregnancy significantly affects cardiac function in women with a two-chambered heart, leading to higher risks of miscarriage and related complications.

Purpose: To evaluate the diagnostic performance of biphasic contrast-enhanced CT in differentiation of lipid-poor adenomas from pheochromocytomas.

Methods: 129 patients with 132 lipid-poor adenomas and 93 patients with 97 pheochromocytomas confirmed by pathology were included in this retrospective study. Patients underwent unenhanced abdominal CT scan followed by arterial and venous phase.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study investigates the impact of different road types on road traffic accidents (RTAs) in northern Guizhou, highlighting an increase in deaths due to RTAs and the lack of focus on road type influence in previous research.
  • - Data from 2009-2018 was analyzed, revealing that while mortality rates for administrative and functional roads decreased over time, county and fourth-class roads had the highest death rates among their respective categories.
  • - The findings indicate that despite a recent decline in RTAs, further measures are needed to significantly improve safety, as the mortality rate per vehicle is correlated negatively with the region's GDP growth.

Neovascularization is a histological feature of glioma, especially of glioblastoma (GBM), being associated with tumor invasiveness and poor prognosis. However, current anti-angiogenic therapies targeting vascular endothelial cells (ECs), has exhibited poor efficacy in some GBM cases. This may be at least partially attributed to the potential of glioblastoma cells to construct blood supply chain via vasculogenic mimicry or endothelial differentiation.

Background: Penehyclidine is a newly developed anticholinergic agent. We aimed to investigate the role of penehyclidine in acute organophosphorus pesticide poisoning (OP) patients.

Methods: We searched the Pubmed, Cochrane library, EMBASE, Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), Chinese Biomedical literature (CBM) and Wanfang databases.

Purpose: To observe the therapeutic effect of interventional embolization and haemorrhage control in multiple trauma patients with a major abdominal or pelvic injury.

Methods: Data of 160 multiple trauma patients with a major abdominal or pelvic injury were retrospectively analyzed. They were admitted into the Department of Emergency of the First Affiliated Hospital of Zunyi Medical College from October 2013 to April 2016.

Background: Snakebites are a neglected threat to global human health with a high morbidity rate. The present study explored the efficacy of antivenom with hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) intervention on snakebites, which could provide the experimental basis for clinical adjuvant therapy.

Methods: Male Sprague-Dawley rats (n = 96) were randomized into four groups: the poison model was established by injecting Deinagkistrodon acutus (D.

To establish a rat model of an open craniocerebral injury at simulated high altitude and to examine the characteristics of this model. Rats were divided randomly into a normobaric group and a high-altitude group and their corresponding control groups. A rat model of an open craniocerebral injury was established with a nail gun shot.
