Article Synopsis
  • Viral infections, particularly rhinovirus (RV), are significant triggers for acute asthma exacerbations in children, leading to hospitalizations.
  • The study analyzed 115 hospitalized asthmatic children under 15 years, revealing that over half had positive RV infections and highlighting severity levels through the Pediatric Asthma Score.
  • Important findings included higher levels of Th2-related cytokines (IL-5 and IL-13) in children with RV, suggesting these cytokines could serve as biomarkers for severe asthma exacerbations linked to viral infections.
