Introduction: Gestational diabetes is a potential risk factor for neonatal hearing loss. Increased circulating sugars in mothers during pregnancy can impairs the micro circulation and can cause congenital anomalies of the inner ear resulting in congenital hearing loss. This study attempts to find the incidence of neonatal hearing loss among diabetic mothers.

Reactions of 5-SIDipp ⋅ BH (5-SIDipp=1,3-bis(2,6-diisopropylphenyl)-imidazolin-2-ylidene) (1) with diphenyldiselenide provide access to 5-SIDipp-boryl mono- (5-SIDipp ⋅ BH SePh) (2) and bis-selenide (5-SIDipp ⋅ BH(SePh) ) (3). The facile cleavage of the B-Se bond makes 2 a neutral source of selenium nucleophiles in substitutions reactions with benzyl bromides, and provide access to the corresponding selenoethers. The direct transformations of one of the C(sp )-F bonds of C F N and C F CF to C-Se bonds have also been achieved by the use of 2 without employing transition-metal catalysts.

Despite recent advancements in the chemistry of multiply bound boron compounds, the laboratory isolation of the parent oxoborane moiety, HBO has long remained an unsolved and well-recognized challenge. The reaction of 6-SIDipp·BH [6-SIDipp = 1,3-di(2,6-diisopropylphenyl)tetrahydropyrimidine-2-ylidene] with GaCl afforded an unusual boron-gallium 3c-2e compound (1). The addition of water to 1 resulted in the release of H and the formation of a rare acid stabilized neutral parent oxoborane, LB(H)[double bond, length as m-dash]O (2).

Tracheobronchial foreign body aspiration is a life threatening emergency which requires immediate medical attention. Foreign body aspiration caused by sharp objects like scarf pins was more common in young girls, possibly due to casual handling of sharp objects. Most of the patients were symptomatic with cough and choking episodes.

Phosphatase (PO4ase) activity was investigated in continuous and fed-batch anaerobic bioreactors for wastewater treatment. PO4ase levels were high in continuously fed reactors (880-2632 micromol/L/h), compared to a fed-batch reactor (FBR) (540-1249 micromol/L/h). Alkaline and acid PO4ases were present in all the reactors, but in varying magnitudes and total PO4ase activity exhibited a 10-30% variation even at steady-state reactor conditions.
