A comprehensive three-phase opiate sparing multimodal pain protocol for hip arthroscopy: a retrospective review.

The aim of this study is to assess the efficacy of a three-phase, multimodal, perioperative pain protocol for primary hip arthroscopy based on pain scores, narcotic use, time to discharge, hospital admission and complications. A retrospective study of patients undergoing primary hip arthroscopy over a 48-month time period was conducted. Patients were separated into a multimodal group consisting of non-narcotic medication, local analgesia and a peripheral nerve block (PNB) versus patients receiving only a PNB.

Consumer Information and Treatment Resources for Posttraumatic Stress Disorder: Within Reach but Not Grasp.

In the context of multiple treatment options for posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and a large, growing need for consumer information regarding accessible and effective treatments, this article identifies and reviews available information and treatment resources. Multiple search strategies identified a suite of information sources, including meta-analyses and systematic reviews of PTSD treatments, the program evaluation and implementation literature, the economics literature, Internet sites, and other resources for veteran and civilian consumers. Resources were evaluated with regard to their target audiences, depth and breadth of treatment options covered, nature of the information provided, and accessibility to consumers.

Laparoscopic cholecystectomy and management of biliary tract stones in a freestanding ambulatory surgery center.

Objective: We conducted a retrospective 4-year study of patients undergoing laparoscopic cholecystectomy at a freestanding ambulatory surgery center. Data on rates of hospital admission, conversion to open surgery, bile duct injury, postoperative bile leakage, and incidence of choledocholithiasis were analyzed. The success rate for dynamic fluoroscopic intraoperative cholangiography was computed, and outpatient laparoscopic common bile duct exploration and anesthetic management were reviewed.
