Little is known about the association between specific primary lymph node (LN) sites and the risk of developing second primary cancers in Hodgkin lymphoma (HL) patients. To fill this knowledge gap, we used the multiple primary standardized incidence ratio function of the SEER*stat program to explore such an association for multiple latency periods. Several SPCs occurred at various time points following different primary LN presentations of HL.

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are small non-coding RNAs that function as post-transcriptional gene expression regulators. The expression profiling of miRNAs has already entered into cancer clinics as diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers to assess tumor initiation, progression and response to treatment in cancer patients. Recent studies have opened the way for the use of circulating miRNAs as non-invasive diagnosis and prognosis of Acute myeloid leukemia (AML).

Genomic imprinting is a complex epigenetic process that contributes substantially to embryogenesis, reproduction, and gametogenesis. Only small fraction of genes within the whole genome undergoes imprinting. Imprinted genes are expressed in a monoallelic parent-of-origin-specific manner, which means that only one of the two inherited alleles is expressed either from the paternal or maternal side.

DNA methylation is a major epigenetic marking mechanism regulating various biological functions in mammals and plant. The crucial role of DNA methylation has been observed in cellular differentiation, embryogenesis, genomic imprinting and X-chromosome inactivation. Furthermore, DNA methylation takes part in disease susceptibility, responses to environmental stimuli and the biodiversity of natural populations.

Synopsis of recent research by authors named "Amr Rafat Elhamamsy"

  • - Amr Rafat Elhamamsy's recent research focuses on the interplay between epigenetics and cancer, particularly examining DNA methylation and its implications in cancer diagnoses and prognoses, evidenced by biomarkers in diseases such as Hodgkin lymphoma and Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML).
  • - His studies reveal the potential of circulating microRNAs as non-invasive biomarkers for AML, highlighting their role as regulators in tumor initiation and progression, which could significantly improve early detection and treatment responses.
  • - Furthermore, Elhamamsy provides insights into the role of DNA methylation in genomic imprinting and its broader impact on cellular functions, disease susceptibility, and response to environmental changes in both animals and plants.
