Background: Techniques in endovascular therapy have evolved to offer a promising alternative to medical therapy alone for Type B aortic dissections (TBADs).

Aim: The aim of this meta-analysis was to compare mortality and overall complications between thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR) and best medical therapy (BMT) in patients with TBADs.

Methods: We included randomized control trials and prospective or retrospective cohort studies that compared TEVAR and BMT for the treatment of type B aortic dissection.

Article Synopsis
  • Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is a major global health issue, and this study explored the link between the TyG index and various heart-related risks in non-diabetic patients in the U.S.
  • Researchers analyzed data from over 10,000 participants from the NHANES survey (2001-2020) to assess how the TyG index relates to conditions like coronary heart disease, heart attacks, and hypertension.
  • While a higher TyG index was associated with increased cardiovascular risk factors, it was found to be a poor predictor of actual cardiovascular diseases in the studied population.

Background: Data are lacking on patient-reported outcomes (PRO) following cryoballoon ablation (CBA) versus radiofrequency ablation (RFA). We sought to evaluate QoL and clinical outcomes of cryoballoon pulmonary vein isolation only (CRYO-PVI-ONLY) versus RFA with PVI and posterior wall isolation (RF-PVI+PWI) in a large prospective PRO registry.

Methods: Patients who underwent AF ablation (2013-2016) at our institution were enrolled in an automated, prospectively maintained PRO registry.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study aimed to analyze whether Monocyte Distribution Width (MDW) and Procalcitonin (PCT) could effectively diagnose sepsis by reviewing relevant observational and clinical trials.
  • - Five observational studies with a total of 565 sepsis patients and 781 controls were included, showing that both MDW and PCT levels were significantly higher in sepsis patients, with MDW demonstrating greater statistical significance.
  • - The conclusion indicates that MDW has higher diagnostic accuracy compared to PCT, suggesting it can be a reliable marker for diagnosing sepsis in emergency settings, but further multicenter research is needed to confirm these results.

Background: Diabetes and arterial hypertension are the two most common types of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) impacting people globally. There is no prior research on the Syrian population's knowledge and treatment of hypertension and diabetes. It is crucial to investigate how the Syrian public understands and perceives these disorders in order to address the increased incidence and prevalence of hypertension and diabetes.
