Background: Peri-implant biofilm formation due to local bacterial colonization is one of the important factors for the instability of temporary anchorage devices (TADs).

Aim: The aim of this study was to quantify and compare the colonization of on ultraviolet (UV) treated and untreated titanium TADs.

Materials And Methods: This prospective, study included 20 subjects requiring orthodontic treatment with first premolar extraction, followed by retraction of the anterior teeth with absolute anchorage using TADs.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates how mandibular advancement affects gene expression in young rats' mandibular condylar cartilage, focusing on Sdf1 and Foxc1 during a recovery phase.
  • Four groups of Wistar rats were used, including a control and experimental group, with methods involving real-time RT-PCR and histological analysis to assess changes during and after the use of the dental appliance.
  • Results showed significant changes in genetic expression and cartilage layers, indicating that the mandibular advancement appliances stimulate growth in the cartilage, with persistent changes in gene expression even after removal of the appliances.

Aim: The main objective of this systematic review is to comprehensively evaluate all the relevant studies to evaluate the effectiveness of electrical stimulation to accelerate orthodontic tooth movement in human patients.

Methods: Using a suitable search strategy, various databases like PubMed, CENTRAL, Scopus and Google Scholar were surveyed for relevant randomized controlled trials (RCTs); after which a hand search of related orthodontic journals was completed. The risk of bias of studies was checked using Cochrane's ROB-2 tool.

To compare the matrix metalloproteinase-8 (MMP-8) levels in the peri-miniscrew implant crevicular fluid (PMCF) of immediate-loaded and delayed-loaded miniscrew implants at different time intervals. Titanium orthodontic miniscrews were placed bilaterally in the attached gingiva of 15 patients between the maxillary second premolar and maxillary first molar for en masse retraction. This split-mouth study was designed to have an immediate-loaded miniscrew on one side and a delayed-loaded miniscrew on the other side that was loaded 8 days after miniscrew placement.

The center of resistance is considered the fundamental reference point for controlled tooth movement. Accurate determination of its location can greatly enhance the efficiency of orthodontic treatment. The purpose of this review was to analyse the scientific literature related to the location of center of resistance of tooth determined by various approaches.

Purpose: To evaluate the effect of micro-osteoperforations (MOPs) on the rate of orthodontic tooth movement (OTM) during en masse anterior retraction.

Materials And Methods: Twenty patients were randomly allocated into experimental and control group of 10 each. In the control group, en masse retraction was performed with sliding mechanics with a coil spring.

Introduction: Various force systems are used in orthodontics to move teeth, such as continuous, intermittent and interrupted. Teeth responds differently to these orthodontic forces.

Aims: The aim of the study is to compare the rate of canine retraction with intermittent and interrupted forces.

Introduction: This study aimed to evaluate the effect of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) on the rate of orthodontic tooth movement (OTM) during en-masse anterior retraction.

Methods: Twenty adult patients with Angles Class I bimaxillary protrusion or crowding requiring first premolar extraction for routine orthodontic treatment were divided into control and experimental groups. The control group did not receive PRP, whereas the experimental group received PRP in the alveolar mucosa of the maxillary 6 anterior teeth just before starting en-masse retraction.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of ultraviolet (UV) photofunctionalization on peri-implant osteogenesis of miniscrews.

Materials And Methods: Titanium orthodontic miniscrews were placed in the maxillary premolar-molar region of 17 patients undergoing fixed orthodontic treatment. This was a split-mouth study wherein the miniscrews on one side were treated with UV photofunctionalization and those on the other side were left untreated.

Aim: To check the efficacy of decompression technique in children with dentigerous cysts.

Background: Most commonly occurring odontogenic cysts in the oral cavity are radicular cysts and dentigerous cysts. According to Kramer, a cyst is defined as a pathological cavity having fluid, semi-fluid, or gaseous contents, which is not created by the accumulation of pus.

Background: The study was designed to evaluate and compare the rest periods of 4 and 6 weeks for healing of orthodontically induced root resorption craters.

Methods: The study was conducted with a split-mouth design, with the right and left mandibular first premolars of 14 subjects serving as the two groups of the study. The right premolars constituted group A and the left ones, group B.

Growth of the mandibular condylar cartilage (MCC) is reviewed as a function of genetic and epigenetic factors. The growth centers around the differential spatial concentration of the chondrocytes, influence of growth factors like TGF-β and heterogeneity in the number of IGF receptors, control the action of IGF. Besides these factors, growth of the mandibular condyle is influenced by differential response of chondrocytes as a function of their source/ageing, which in turn is regulated by TGF-β, BMPs and IGFs.
