  • Contraceptive arm implants are long-acting birth control devices placed under the skin of the upper arm, with two main types: etonogestrel (ENG) and levonorgestrel (LNG) releasing.
  • These implants are not biodegradable and must be removed after their licensed duration, either through a small incision if palpable or with imaging techniques if not.
  • Ultrasound is the preferred method for locating non-palpable implants, with additional options like X-ray and MRI used for more complex cases; an algorithm is provided for approaching implant localization based on specific circumstances.

We propose novel thermodynamic inequalities that apply to stationary asymptotically anti-de Sitter (AdS) black holes. These inequalities incorporate the thermodynamic volume and refine the reverse isoperimetric inequality. To assess the validity of our conjectures, we apply them to a wide range of analytical black hole solutions, observing compelling evidence in their favor.

The fully aquatic African clawed frog, Xenopus laevis, has an unusual and highly adapted nose that allows it to separately sample both airborne and waterborne stimuli. The function of the adult water nose has received little study, despite the fact that it is quite likely to receive information about conspecifics through secretions released into the water and could aid the frog in making decisions about social and reproductive behaviors. To assess the potential for chemical communication in this species, we developed an in situ electroolfactogram preparation and tested the olfactory responses of adult males to cloacal fluids and skin secretions from male and female conspecifics.

Gas hydrates deposited in subseafloor sediments are considered to primarily consist of biogenic methane. However, little evidence for the occurrence of living methanogens in subseafloor sediments has been provided. This study investigated viable methanogen diversity, population, physiology and potential activity in hydrate-bearing sediments (1-307 m below the seafloor) from the eastern Nankai Trough.

After the declaration of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, gynecological surgery joins the readjustment process that this great global health crisis implies. In the light of current literature, the five steps towards its resilience are described as below; (1) Dynamic prioritization of surgical indications and reintroduction of elective surgeries: Diverse surgical prioritization lists are published including the most common gynecological pathologies. (2) Minimally invasive surgery through laparoscopy and robotic assistance: Some authors suggest a theoretical but unproven risk of viral transmission during these approaches because of the aerosol generation.
