Purpose: To evaluate the anatomical and functional results of the "3+PRN" protocol in the treatment of diabetic macular edema (DME), determine the predictive factors for good final visual acuity, and compare it to other protocols.

Materials And Methods: We conducted a retrospective, descriptive, comparative, cross-sectional study of patients with DME, which we dubbed HTSM. All patients were treated with three monthly initial intravitreal injections (IVT) of 1.

We reported the observation of a 31-year-old female followed for a nasopharyngeal carcinoma since 2009, treated by locoregional radiotherapy, with a cumulative dose of 75 Gray. The patient presented with a progressive decline in bilateral vision. Ophthalmologic examination revealed bilateral dry eye, posterior subcapsular cataract, radiation retinopathy, and optic neuropathy.

Herein, we report a rare case of Tolosa-Hunt syndrome (THS) following coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccine administration. A 64-year-old patient presented with recurrent horizontal diplopia and ipsilateral orbital pain, 2 weeks after being administered the COVID-19 vaccination. A diagnosis of THS was based on the relevant criteria after ruling out the differential diagnoses.

The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic has spread throughout the world, affecting almost all nations and territories. The current double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled, phase II clinical trial sought to evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of mebendazole as an adjuvant therapy for outpatients with COVID-19. The patients were recruited and divided into two groups: a Mebendazole-treated group and placebo group.

This study focuses on predicting the dynamic viscosity of nanofluids, specifically Polyalpha-Olefin-hexagonal boron nitride (PAO-hBN) using machine learning models. The primary goal of this research is to assess and contrast the effectiveness of three distinct machine learning models: Support Vector Regression (SVR), Artificial Neural Networks (ANN), and Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS). The main objective is the identification of a model that demonstrates the highest level of accuracy in predicting a nanofluid's viscosity namely, PAO-hBN nanofluids.

Purpose: To compare the macular and papillary parameters on optical coherence tomography (OCT) between the amblyopic eye and the healthy eye in subjects with unilateral strabismic or anisometropic amblyopia.

Patients And Methods: This is a cross-sectional and comparative study carried out over two years, from April 1, 2019, to March 31, 2021. We included patients aged over 5years, followed for unilateral amblyopia, free of any neurological and/or ocular pathology.

Article Synopsis
  • The study highlights that improper use of pressurized metered dose inhalers (pMDIs) is a significant issue for effective inhaled therapy, and verbal training alone isn't sufficient.
  • Two new training devices, Trainhaler (THR) and Flo-Tone CR (FTCR), were tested to see how well they improve pMDI technique by measuring lung and systemic bioavailability of salbutamol.
  • Results showed that the FTCR device significantly increased lung bioavailability and reduced unwanted drug deposition in the throat compared to THR, indicating these trainers could effectively assist in maintaining proper inhaler technique alongside verbal training.

Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a chronic, autoimmune disease characterized by widespread clinical manifestations and immunological disorders. A myriad of ocular manifestations can be seen in patients with SLE. The most vision-threatening complication is vaso-occlusive retinopathy including retinal vein occlusion (RVO).

Introduction: Graves' disease (GD) is a common autoimmune disorder. Graves'orbitopathy (GO) is its most common extrathyroidal manifestation. It is rare but may reveal the disease.

Background: Poor pressurized metered dose inhaler (pMDI) technique is prevalent, which will diminish treatment gains. In a two-visit study, two novel pMDI training devices with feedback mechanisms; Trainhaler (THR) and Flo-Tone CR (FTCR), were evaluated alongside the traditional verbal inhaler training (VT) in asthma outpatients.

Methods: On visit 1, 18-60 year-old asthmatics with incorrect pMDI use [including peak inhalation flow (PIF) >60 L/min] signed consent and baseline pMDI technique, lung function, asthma control and quality-of-life were measured.

Background: Coordination between actuation of a pressurized metered dose inhaler (pMDI) and inhalation is a critical manoeuvre that many patients fail to perform correctly. pMDIs connected to spacers do not require hand-lung coordination. This study evaluated the relative lung and systemic bioavailability and oropharyngeal deposition of salbutamol post-inhalation from Ventolin® Evohaler® (GlaxoSmithKline) either alone following verbal inhaler technique counselling (VC) or connected to a newly improved Able Spacer® (AS).

Background: Oral inhalation is the main drug delivery route for treating obstructive lung conditions. Thus, many inhaler devices with various design and pharmaceutical formulation have been introduced. The fine particle dose (FPD) and mass median aerodynamic diameter (MMAD ≤ 5 μm) of the aerosol delivered dose (DD) dictate the therapeutically effective peripheral lung deposition.

The impact of inhalers' postdispensing, real-life temperature and relative humidity (RH) environments on their delivered dose (DD) and aerodynamic particle size distribution (APSD) is usually overlooked. This work evaluated the salbutamol DD and APSD of Ventolin Evohaler (V) inhalers already been used and stored by respiratory patients. Adult patients, prescribed V for ≥3 months before study enrollment, were dispensed both new V to use and portable, handheld electronic temperature and RH data loggers to keep close to the given V before returning them both after 2-3 weeks.

Introduction: Many factors can affect dry powder inhalers' (DPIs) aerosol emission and lung deposition. The fluctuation of environmental temperature and relative humidity (RH) that inhalers experience in realistic daily use has not been extensively evaluated. This work aimed to evaluate the delivered dose (DD) and aerodynamic particle size distribution (APSD) of tiotropium Handihaler DPI (H) after exposure to patients' real-life use environments.

Objective: Verbal counselling (VC) is the clinical standard for training patients on correct inhaler use. Patients fail to recall their VC with time. Ethical approval was obtained to compare the pressurized metered dose inhaler (pMDI) VC with Trainhaler (TH), a novel pMDI inhalation flow and technique training device, in children with asthma.

Objective: To study socio-demographic characteristics and main causes related to visual impairment (VI) as a function of age bracket and to analyze their trends over time in the district of Mahdia.

Method: A retrospective review was performed on 1487 cases of visual impairment registered with the social authorities in Mahdia, between 1980 and 2013. The social, demographic, vision exam findings and causes were ascertained and analyzed in an SPSS database.

Objectives: To investigate associations between technique with pressurised metered-dose inhalers (pMDIs) and dry powder inhalers (DPIs) used as controller medication and asthma control variables measured using Asthma Control Test (ACT) scores.

Design: In this cross-sectional study, the inhaler technique of asthma patients using pMDIs or DPIs (Turbuhaler® [TH] and Accuhaler Diskus™ [ACC]) were assessed against published inhaler technique checklists. ACT scores (maximum 25, higher score corresponding to better asthma control) were assessed.
