Article Synopsis
  • Polytrauma from road accidents frequently causes acute kidney injury (AKI), affecting hospital admissions and patient outcomes, with a noted AKI incidence of 30.5% among severely injured patients in Dubai.
  • Higher Injury Severity Scores (ISS) and comorbidity indices show significant associations with AKI, indicating that severe injuries and pre-existing health conditions increase the risk of kidney damage.
  • The presence of AKI results in longer hospital and ICU stays, increased mechanical ventilation needs, more ventilator days, and a higher mortality rate, significantly impacting patient prognosis.
