This is an interesting case of rhabdomyosarcoma, presenting at an unusual site and diagnosed on FNAC. The smears depict the typical malignant small round cell morphology and tigroid background. It illustrates the role of cell block and immunohistochemistry as important ancillary adjuncts to morphology.

Article Synopsis
  • Thoracic tracheal tumors are uncommon and can present challenges for surgery and anesthesia, making their management complex.
  • This study focuses on the percutaneous trans-tracheal endoscopic approach (PTTEA) as a minimally invasive alternative for patients with tracheal tumors when traditional methods fail.
  • Out of 16 patients treated from 2015 to 2022, most had successful outcomes with benign tumors, while malignant tumors required further treatment after initial procedures; PTTEA proved to offer advantages like better access and fewer complications.

Warthin-like subtype of papillary thyroid carcinoma (WLPTC) is a rare subtype of papillary thyroid carcinoma. This PTC subtype shows some pattern resemblance to Warthin tumors of the salivary gland, which confers its name but is a not genetically similar to salivary Warthin tumor, with the most frequent genetic change in WLPTC being BRAF p.V600E, the most frequent genetic driver of PTC.

Article Synopsis
  • - Oncocytic renal neoplasms pose significant diagnostic challenges, yet are generally nonaggressive, prompting discussion about the necessity of differentiating emerging subtypes like eosinophilic solid and cystic renal cell carcinoma and others.
  • - A survey of 63 urologic pathologists revealed that many encounter complex oncocytic tumors frequently, with 70% agreeing that eosinophilic solid and cystic renal cell carcinoma should be recognized as a distinct category, while opinions were more divided on other types.
  • - Diagnostic approaches varied among pathologists, with 60% hesitant to diagnose oncocytoma through needle biopsies, and a near split on the routine use of immunohistochemistry; common genetic testing was

Objectives: The presence of lymphovascular invasion (LVI), perineural invasion (PNI) and extranodal extension (ENE) have shown adverse outcomes in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC). This study evaluated the impact of LVI, PNI and ENE, individually and in combination, on survival outcomes in OSCC.

Material And Methods: A retrospective analysis of a prospectively maintained oral cancer database was done from January 2017 to March 2023.

  • * The survey received an 85% response rate from 98 uropathologists, revealing strong agreement on distinguishing between luminal and basal UC types, but varied opinions on the importance of certain genetic tests like FGFR3 and TERT promoter mutations.
  • * Most uropathologists acknowledged the aggressive nature of tumors with micropapillary features and favored further evaluation and specific molecular testing for aggressive subtypes, indicating a need for improved consensus in UC classification and treatment strategies.

Breast invasive carcinoma (BRCA) is the most malignant and leading cause of death in women. Global efforts are ongoing for improvement in early detection, prevention, and treatment. In this milieu, a comprehensive analysis of RNA-sequencing data of 1097 BRCA samples and 114 normal adjacent tissues is done to identify dysregulated genes in major molecular classes of BRCA in various clinical stages.

Mucinous carcinomas arising within an ovarian dermoid tumor are rare. Most of the cases reported in the literature show morphological features resembling an appendiceal mucinous neoplasm. They exhibit CK7-/CK20+ immunophenotype similar to carcinomas of the lower gastrointestinal tract.

Article Synopsis
  • Primary cilia (PC) are important cellular structures that help maintain cellular balance and are involved in cancer-related pathways, particularly in urothelial carcinoma (UC) of the bladder.
  • This study assessed the presence of PC in the stromal cells at the tumor-stromal interface of UC cases and found that the ratio of primary cilia to nucleus (C:N ratio) significantly decreases from normal to low- and high-grade UC.
  • A lower C:N ratio was associated with more aggressive tumor characteristics and a potential correlation with lower recurrence-free survival, indicating that changes in PC may play a role in UC progression.

Purpose: A common definition of a clear margin (≥5 mm) in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) for all stages is a subject of controversy. Studies have shown that even 1- and 2-mm margins are adequate, and few studies have identified dynamic resection margin as a criterion. We aimed to study the margin to depth of invasion ratio (MDR), margin to tumor thickness ratio (MTR), and margin to tumor size ratio (MSR) as prognostic markers for survival.

Adrenocortical carcinoma (ACC) is a rare and aggressive malignancy. Extensive rhabdoid morphology in ACC has been described recently in very few cases. The proportion of rhabdoid morphology and the role of SMARCB1/ INI1 expression in these tumor cells to diagnose the specific variant is not described in the literature.

Background: Enhancer of zeste homolog 2 (EZH2) is one of the major epigenetic modifiers involved in the transcriptional repression of target genes through trimethylation of H3K27 (lysine 27 residue of histone H3). Deregulated expression of both EZH2 and H3K27me3 has been implicated in the biological behavior and prognostic outcome of various malignancies.

Aim: To assess the role of EZH2 and H3K27me3 in the carcinogenesis of urothelial carcinoma of urinary bladder.

Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) commonly metastasizes to various organs such as the lungs, liver, bones, and brain. However, isolated metastases to the head and neck region, especially the larynx, are very rare. This report presents a case of laryngeal growth that was eventually confirmed to be a metastatic deposit from an undiagnosed RCC.

Carotid body tumors are slow growing neck masses that arise from the neural crest cells at the carotid bifurcation. Majority are asymptomatic and are diagnosed incidentally. Surgical excision is accepted as the treatment of choice to reduce complications.

Breast cancer morbidity is surging towards the peak in females across the globe. An inherent property of cancer cells is enhanced cell proliferation rate and migration capability, leading to deregulated cell signaling cascades. G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) have recently emerged as a hot-spot target in cancer research.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to assess the prevalence of skip metastases in patients with Oral-squamous-cell-carcinoma (OSCC) who underwent neck dissection alongside surgery for the primary tumor.
  • Out of 100 biopsied OSCC cases, 36% showed cervical lymph node metastases, primarily at levels I, II, and III, but only 4 cases presented with skip metastases to levels IIb, III, and V.
  • The findings suggest that extensive neck dissections may be unnecessary for certain patients, potentially reducing complications and morbidities linked to surgical procedures.

Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is considered as the most common malignant neoplasm of childhood and the frequent cause of death from cancer before 20-years of age. The facial swelling mimicking a maxillofacial tumor is rarely associated with ALL. Clinicians should be aware of such rare manifestation of ALL.

Introduction: Despite the development of targeted therapies for the management of oral cancer patients, the cost of treatment is a concern in middle- and low-income countries. The present study assessed the feasibility of low-cost metronomic therapy as an alternative treatment modality in patients with unresectable or inoperable oral cancers.

Methodology: The study was a prospective, single-arm study.

Myocardial perfusion imaging is primarily done to look for stress-induced perfusion defects in patients suspected of having coronary artery disease. However, the rotating raw images can provide significant information on the surrounding structures. The lungs lie near the heart, and any abnormality showing increased uptake can be seen on myocardial perfusion imaging.

Background Despite many advances in platelet counting by cell counters, the problem of falsely low or falsely high total platelet counts (TPC) is common. Many laboratories estimate platelet count on the peripheral smear to cross-check the platelet counts. However, due to the lack of a standard calculation method, discrepant results are obtained from different laboratories leading to confusion among clinicians.
