Objectives: To find predictive biomarkers for recurrence and progression of meningioma.

Background: Despite great advances in meningioma treatment, the prognosis remained unfavorable due to the high recurrence rate.

Methods: In this study, we evaluated the immunohistochemical expression of FOXM1, MMP-9, and Ki67 in 50 cases of intracranial meningioma to detect its potential role in meningioma progression, recurrence, and patients' survival.

Enamel mechanical properties vary across molar crowns, but the relationship among mechanical properties, tooth function, and phylogeny are not well understood. Fifteen primate lower molars representing fourteen taxa (catarrhine, n = 13; platyrrhine, n = 1) were sectioned in the lingual-buccal plane through the mesial cusps. Gradients of enamel mechanical properties, specifically hardness and elastic modulus, were quantified using nanoindentation from inner (near the enamel-dentine junction), through middle, to outer enamel (near the outer enamel surface) at five positions (buccal lateral, buccal cuspal, occlusal middle, lingual cuspal, lingual lateral).

Objective: Variation in enamel and dentine mineral concentration and total effective density can be reliably collected using Micro-CT scans. Both variables are suggested to reflect mechanical properties such as hardness and elastic modulus in dental tissues, meaning Micro-CT methods allow relative composition and mechanical properties to be collected non-destructively.

Design: 16 lower molars from 16 Catarrhine primates were Micro-CT scanned alongside hydroxyapatite phantoms using standardized settings and methods to calculate mineral concentration and total effective density.

BACKGROUND Methanol can cause many acute complications when ingested, either intentionally or accidentally. One rare complication is cerebral hemorrhage, which can present with focal neurologic deficits, decreased consciousness, and fixed, dilated pupils. With vigilant monitoring of patients in the acute period of toxicity, rapid identification, and initiation of treatment, outcomes can potentially be improved in these patients.

Endometrial cancer (EC) is the most common gynecologic cancer and the current methods for the prediction of its prognosis and treatment response are unfortunately suboptimal. In this study, we evaluated the prognostic value of p53, Pirh2, and L1CAM in 60 cases of EC using immunohistochemistry (IHC) and polymerase chain reaction. TP53 missense mutations result in nuclear accumulation of p53 protein that can be detected as overexpression by IHC.

Pancreatic cystic lesions (PCLs) may be accidentally discovered in up to 13.5% of cases. These PCLs are of multiple types, including mucinous cysts (intra-ductal papillary mucinous neoplasms [IPMN] and mucinous cystic neoplasms [MCN]) that have a risk of malignant transformation.

Acral vitiligo is often resistant to medical and surgical treatments. Non-cultured epidermal cell suspension (NCES) transplantation is a common surgical therapeutic modality for vitiligo. 5-Flurouracil (5-FU) in combination with microneedling has been found to be useful in treating vitiligo.

Introduction: The aim of this study was to compare the effects of glucose and glycerol (provided as principal fermentable supplements) on alkaline tolerance and biofilm-forming capabilities of root canal-derived strains of Enterococcus faecalis and those from other environments.

Methods: The planktonic growth kinetics and the biofilm-forming capabilities of E. faecalis isolates (identified by 16S ribosomal DNA sequencing) were compared when supplied with glucose and glycerol at pH levels of 8 and 11 in a microtiter plate.

Striae distensae (SD) are disfiguring skin condition causing cosmetic troubles and psychological distress. The aim was to compare the efficacy and safety of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) versus its combination with subcision or medium-depth peeling (glycolic acid 70% followed by trichloroacetic acid [TCA] 35%) for SD treatment. Seventy-five female patients with SD were divided into three equal groups with the contralateral side in each patients represented the control group.

Background: Noncultured epidermal cell suspension (NCES) transplantation is a commonly used surgical treatment for resistant stable vitiligo. The combination of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) with different therapeutic modalities for vitiligo yielded higher repigmentation response, probably due to platelet-derived growth factors.

Aim: To evaluate the efficacy of PRP-suspended NCES compared to NCES suspended in Ringer's lactate (RL) solution in the treatment of stable vitiligo.

Background: Breast cancer is by far the most frequent cancer among women. The proliferative index, Ki-67, is more and more taken into consideration for treatment decisions. However, the reliability of the established Ki-67 scoring is limited.

Background: Dyspepsia is a common presentation for many patients in gastroenterology clinics. () infection is endemic in many countries around the world and its relation to dyspepsia has long been questioned. This study aimed at comparing demographic, endoscopic and histologic features among dyspeptic patients with and without stool antigen positivity.

Background: Both pulsed dye laser and combined 585/1064-nm (sequential dual-wavelength PDL and Nd:YAG) laser improves inflammatory skin disorders including acne vulgaris.

Objective: To compare the efficacy of 585-nm pulsed dye laser versus sequential dual-wavelength PDL and Nd:YAG in treatment of acne vulgaris.

Patients And Method: Thirty patients with acne vulgaris were treated by PDL alone on half of the face while contra lateral half was treated by combined 585/1064 nm laser.

The goal of this study was to detect the presence of cancer stem cell markers CD44 and CD133 in immunohistochemically stained samples of endometrial cancer and correlate their expression with clinicopathological variables to identify the impact of CD44 or CD133 expression on tumor behavior and endometrial carcinogenesis. Marker expression was analyzed in 62 endometrial cancer samples (57 endometrioid carcinoma and 5 carcinosarcoma) and 15 proliferative endometrium samples. We detected CD133 and CD44 expression in 87.

We report a case of 76-year-old man, with a past medical history of primary cutaneous diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, leg type (PCDLBCL-LT), who presented with ureteral tumor diagnosed as urothelial carcinoma on imaging investigations. Histological examination showed an unusual finding. The tumor was a ureteral localization of the PCDLBCL-LT previously diagnosed.

Morphologic criteria for distinguishing endometrial adenocarcinoma from complex atypical endometrial hyperplasia have been described previously, but they have not been examined extensively for their individual ability for predicting endometrial adenocarcinoma as determined by subsequent hysterectomy. We examined endometrial biopsies diagnosed in the spectrum of complex atypical endometrial hyperplasia to well-differentiated endometrial adenocarcinoma for various morphologic features that may be predictive for the presence of myoinvasive endometrial adenocarcinoma in subsequent hysterectomy. Cases diagnosed as FIGO grade I endometrial adenocarcinoma or complex atypical endometrial hyperplasia in endometrial biopsies seen at New York University Medical Center from 2003 to 2006 were analyzed for the presence of various morphologic features without the knowledge of hysterectomy findings.

The role of adhesion molecules; the intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1) and vascular cell adhesion molecule-1 (VCAM-1) as mediators in development of skin allergy caused by giardiasis and the controlling role of the cytokine interleukin (IL)-6 over these adhesion molecules were studied. The work included 25 symptomatic giardiasis patients with skin allergy manifested by diffuse urticaria, pruritus, wheal and erythema, and had positive serum anti-Giardia immunoglobulin (Ig) E measured as mean optical density (OD) value by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), employed as an evidence of allergic sensitization (G.I).
