Obesity is increasingly recognized as a risk factor for breast cancer development. However, the molecular basis of obesity-related breast carcinogenesis remains elusive. In this study, we have shown that obesity reduces the level of the tumor suppressor p16 protein in breast adipocytes, which showed active features and strong procarcinogenic potential both and in orthotopic tumor xenografts compared to mature adipocytes from lean women.

Heterotopic ossification is defined as the formation of trabecular bone that forms outside the normal sites of the skeletal structure, materializing in soft tissue where it does not usually exist. This is a case report of a 27-day-old baby with a diagnosis of DiGeorge syndrome who developed heterotopic ossification on the dorsum of his right hand. Heterotopic ossification in the pediatric population is a rare finding.

Background: Pediatric hand and wrist ganglia seem to have different epidemiological characteristics than those of adults - a majority are found on the volar aspect of the hands and wrists of patients younger than 10 years of age.

Objective: To determine the epidemiology, etiological factors, clinical presentation, treatment and outcome of patients with ganglion cysts at The Hospital for Sick Children (Toronto, Ontario).

Methods: The records of the pathology department at The Hospital for Sick Children were searched for all cases of ganglion cyst operated on between January 2000 and December 2008.

Juvenile xanthogranuloma is a relatively uncommon, benign histiocytic proliferative disorder. A case of juvenile xanthogranuloma in a 13-month-old girl with an unusual clinical form is described. She presented with a yellow-red projecting nodule over the helical rim of her right ear.
