Background: Radiation-induced damage to the hematopoietic and gastrointestinal systems, especially the intestine, is a major concern for individuals exposed to whole-body radiation during an accident. Resveratrol has shown potential in mitigating radiation-induced toxicity, but its efficacy may be limited by its low bioavailability. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of resveratrol-loaded polymeric-based nanocapsules in mitigating radiation-induced injury in the hematopoietic system and intestine after whole-body exposure to radiation.

Nowadays, polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles are widely used for packaging drinks and food. However, concerns have been raised about the possible migration of harmful chemicals, particularly phthalates, from these containers into their contents. Therefore, this study investigates the effects of sunlight exposure and PET bottle reuse on phthalate migration, focusing on three common phthalates: bis(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP), dibutyl phthalate (DBP), and benzyl butyl phthalate (BBP).

Isoproterenol (ISO) usage is limited by its potential for cardiotoxicity. We sought to investigate the potential of agmatine in mitigating ISO-induced cardiotoxicity. Agmatine (100 mg/kg/day) was intraperitoneally administered to Wistar rats for 7 days in the presence or absence of cardiotoxicity induced by subcutaneous injection of ISO (85 mg/kg) on the sixth and seventh days.

Introduction: Wound healing is a major therapeutic concern in regenerative medicine. The current study aimed to investigate the second-degree burn wound treatment in rats using rat adipose- derived stem cells (ADSCs) and manganese nanoparticles (MnO-NPs) in a polycaprolactone/gelatin electrospun nanofiber scaffold.

Methods: After the synthesis of nanoparticles and electrospinning of nanofibers, the SEM analysis, contact angle, mechanical strength, blood compatibility, porosity, swelling, biodegradability, cell viability, and adhesion assays were performed.

Article Synopsis
  • * The review analyzed 40 of 254 articles, revealing that OTA was present in 54.6% of 3,256 coffee samples, with significant variations across countries and coffee types.
  • * Overall, the estimated daily intake of OTA from coffee was below safety thresholds, indicating that coffee is not toxic to consumers, but recommendations for preventing fungal contamination were suggested.

Background: Considering the complex pathological mechanisms behind spinal cord injury (SCI) and the adverse effects of present non-approved drugs against SCI, new studies are needed to introduce novel multi-target active ingredients with higher efficacy and lower side effects. Polydatin (PLD) is a naturally occurring stilbenoid glucoside recognized for its antioxidative and anti-inflammatory properties. This study aimed to assess the effects of PLD on sensory-motor function following SCI in rats.

Silymarin is known for its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. We investigated these effects on serum levels of CTRP3, Anti-CCP, and hs-CRP in individuals with Rheumatoid arthritis (RA). In this study, 42 individuals with RA were recruited and their serum specimens were collected, serum levels of hs-CRP, AntiCCP antibodies, and CTRP3 were measured using ELISA.

Article Synopsis
  • The study examines the relationship between specific genetic variations (polymorphisms) in matrix metalloproteinases MMP-2 and MMP-9 and the occurrence of aortic valve calcification (AVC) in individuals.
  • It involved 92 AVC patients and 92 healthy individuals from western Iran, using various methods to analyze gene variations and the serum levels of these enzymes.
  • Results indicated that AVC patients had higher frequencies of risk alleles (A for MMP-2 and T for MMP-9) and elevated levels of MMP-2 and MMP-9 compared to healthy controls, suggesting a link between these factors and increased cardiovascular disease risk.

Today, probiotics are considered to be living microorganisms whose consumption has a certain number of beneficial effects on the consumer. The present study aimed to investigate the effect of a new probiotic extract (Lactobacillus delbrueckii subsp. lactis KUMS Y33) on the differentiation process of human adipose-derived stem cells (hADSCs) into adipocytes and osteocytes and, as a result, clarify its role in the prevention and treatment of bone age disease.

This study investigates the probiotic and anti-cancer effects of 21 isolated Lactobacillus strains from cheese, milk, and yogurt in Kermanshah, Iran, on oral cancer cell lines KB and OSCC. Four selected isolates (Y33, M45, C5, and C28) displayed good viability and resistance to specific antibiotics. Notably, strains C28 and Y33 exhibited the best results, showing susceptibility or semi-susceptibility to five antibiotics.

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is the most common chronic inflammatory disease, primarily affecting the joints and with stromal tissue dysregulation causing chronic inflammation and joint destruction. Rutin is a natural flavonoid with potential therapeutic properties in chronic destructive conditions including rheumatoid diseases. In this study, the protective effects of rutin nanoformulation in an animal model of rheumatoid arthritis caused by Freund's complete adjuvant (FCA) were investigated.

This study aimed to determine the acrylamide content in potato chips sold in Kermanshah, Iran and assess the potential health concerns associated with acrylamide exposure. HPLC-DAD was used to analyse 120 samples across 40 brands. The possible non-carcinogenic risk index for adults was below 1 for all 40 brands (100%), but for children it was only below 1 for 9 brands (22.

  • The study investigated the ACE gene's insertion/deletion (I/D) variation (rs4646994) in 108 lupus patients and 110 healthy controls in western Iran, focusing on its link to oxidative stress.
  • Results showed that the DD genotype significantly increased the risk of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), while the ID genotype offered a protective effect, lowering the risk compared to the II genotype.
  • SLE patients exhibited higher levels of malondialdehyde (MDA) and neopterin, along with lower paraoxonase (PON) activity compared to controls, indicating a potential relationship between oxidative stress and SLE risk associated with ACE genotypes.*

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is one of the chief neurological difficulties in the aged population, identified through dementia, memory disturbance, and reduced cognitive abilities. β-amyloid (Aβ) plaques aggregations, generation of reactive oxygen species, and mitochondrial dysfunction are among the major signs of AD. Regarding the urgent need for the development of novel treatments for neurodegenerative diseases, researchers have recently perused the function of natural phytobioactive combinations, such as resveratrol (RES), in vivo and in vitro (animal models of AD).
