- Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) poses significant risks after surgery, and this study aimed to compare the effectiveness of aspirin and enoxaparin in preventing it following spine surgery.
- 100 patients at a high risk for DVT were randomly assigned to receive either aspirin (81 mg daily) or enoxaparin (40 mg injections), with DVT diagnosed via ultrasound seven days post-op.
- Results showed a lower DVT incidence in the aspirin group (4.0% vs. 10.0%) and similar rates of hemorrhage, suggesting aspirin could be a viable alternative to enoxaparin, but further research is needed.
