The esophagus of twelve rats were resected, cannulated, and decellularized via a peristaltic pump. After confirmation of decellularization and preservation of extracellular matrix, decellularized scaffolds were implanted either in the abdominal cavity (group I, n = 6) or cervical area (group II, n = 6).
