Lymphocintilographic evaluation of lymphatic circulation in victims of circuferential degloving injuries of the lower limbs.

Introduction: secondary forms of lymphedema may occur as consequence of tumors, surgeries, radiotherapy, trauma and infections. Degloving injuries are severe and infrequent forms of trauma, with avulsion at the level of muscular fascia, and consequent injury of the lymphatic system.

Objective: to evaluate the alterations in lymphatic circulation in patients being victims of circumferential degloving injuries in the lower limbs, using lymphoscintigraphic.

Methods: we conducted a retrospective analysis of medical charts. Patients comprised two groups: Group I - early assessment, performed within 12 hours post trauma; and Group II - delayed assessment, performed more than 12 hours post trauma.

Local complications after industrial liquid silicone injection: case series.

Objective: To analyze a case series of patients who underwent injection of industrial liquid silicone in a clandestine manner and by unauthorized persons.

Methods: We conducted a retrospective analysis of medical records of patients treated between September 2003 and December 2010. Data regarding gender, age, location and volume of silicone injected, time between application and clinical manifestations, complications, treatment and outcome were collected.

Increased survival of free fat grafts with platelet-rich plasma in rabbits.

Background: Numerous applications of autogenous platelet-rich plasma (PRP) have been studied so far; however, its property of enhancing the survival of free fat grafts has not been defined yet. In the literature, many reports are anecdotal and few include controls to definitely determine the role played by PRP in these grafts.

Objective: PRP was investigated to study its effect in free fat grafts' survival in a rabbit model.

Sutureless closure of the upper eyelids in blepharoplasty: use of octyl-2-cyanoacrylate.

Background: Skin adhesives provide an alternative to sutures for skin closure. The use of octyl-2-cyanoacrylate in blepharoplasty has been reported by some authors, but difficulties in applying the product and the real benefits of its use are still controversial.

Objective: The purpose of this study is to show a simple technique for closing the upper incision in blepharoplasty with octyl-2-cyanoacrylate instead of sutures and to discuss its benefits.

Surgical complications in hair transplantation: a series of 533 procedures.

Background: Surgical complications in hair transplantation can sometimes be a serious matter. Most of the published literature on this issue deals with individual case reports rather than larger series of patients.

Objective: The authors analyze complications in 425 consecutive patients undergoing 533 hair transplantations.

Comparative study of the integration and viability of autonomised and nonautonomised autologous fat tissue grafts--experimental model in rabbits.

Background: The free transplant of fatty tissue has gone through several phases of interest over the last 100 years of medical history, having undergone cycles of use and disuse. In the present study we aimed to create, through a delaying process, an improvement in the integration and lower resorption rates of autologous fat grafts. Similar research has not been found in the literature, and this was the motivating factor for the present study.
