Sevelamer is a non-absorbable polymer used to treat hyperphosphatemia in individuals with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) undergoing hemodialysis. The deposition of sevelamer crystals in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract, especially in the colon, can cause mucosal inflammation, pseudopolyps, ulceration, ischemia, or necrosis. Owing to its rarity and lack of physician awareness, the actual incidence and prevalence of sevelamer-induced gastrointestinal mucosal injury (SIGMI) remain unknown.

Heyde syndrome is a triad of aortic stenosis (AS), gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding from angiodysplasia, and acquired von Willebrand disease (vWD). It is hypothesized that stenotic aortic valves cleave von Willebrand factor (vWF) multimers, predisposing patients to bleeding from GI angiodysplasias. This hypothesis is supported by the observation that aortic valve replacement often leads to the resolution of GI bleeding.

Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) lacks estrogen, progesterone, and human epidermal growth factor receptors and has a poor prognosis as it is resistant to chemotherapy. A new treatment option for this type of cancer may be by putting these malignant cells into dormancy. The oocyte's embryonic milieu presents a unique tumor reversion microenvironment by inducing growth arrest and changing cells' phenotypes.

Laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding (LAGB) is a bariatric procedure that was introduced in the early 1990s and offers a minimally invasive and reversible option for weight loss. Initially popular due to its simplicity and effectiveness, LAGB's long-term success has been limited by complications such as port-site infection, pouch dilatation, and gastric band erosion. Herein, we describe a rare case of gastric band erosion found incidentally during endoscopy a decade after placement.

Background: Immunoglobulin G (IgG) subclasses play a crucial role in the immune response to viral infections. While total IgG levels can generally provide an indication on the immune response, specific IgG subclasses can offer more detailed information about nature of the immune response and stage of the infection. Herein, we addressed the value of both total (t) and SARS-CoV-2-specific (s) IgG-subclasses in distinguishing between infection-confirmed virus-qRT-PCR-positive (IC; V-qRT-PCR-P) and infection-unconfirmed virus-qRT-PCR-unchecked (IU; V-qRT-PCR-UC) Egyptians.

Fecalomas are a rare potential etiology for constipation experienced in children and the elderly. Large bowel obstructions due to fecalomas are preferably treated conservatively with laxatives and bowel rest. However, in the setting of severe corporostasis, more invasive procedures are required to prevent bowel ischemia and perforation.

Background: Studying the human genome is crucial to embrace precision medicine through tailoring treatment and prevention strategies to the unique genetic makeup and molecular information of individuals. After human genome project (1990-2003) generated the first full sequence of a human genome, there have been concerns towards Northern bias due to underrepresentation of other populations. Multiple countries have now established national genome projects aiming at the genomic knowledge that can be harnessed from their populations, which in turn can serve as a basis for their health care policies in the near future.
