Background And Aim Of The Work: Hepatocellular cancer (HCC) is one of the common liver cancers and considered to be the sixth most commonly occurring cancer in the world and the second leading cause of death among cancer patients. More recent studies on HCC showed that the elevated serum endocan level was a predictive factor of recurrence after radiofrequency ablation. The aim of this study is to evaluate the serum endocan level as a prognostic biomarker for recurrence of HCC after percutaneous radiofrequency ablation.

The trials of finding non-conventional and alternative aquafeed ingredients are increasing. In this sense, this study evaluated the influence of coconut oil on the growth, feed utilization, immune, and antioxidative responses of Nile tilapia. Five test diets were formulated by mixing coconut oil with the other ingredients at 0, 1, 2, 3, and 4% of the total ration and presented for tilapia for 60 successive days.

Recently, low level laser therapy was evaluated as an effective stimulating hair growth. Hair loss is the most common complaint in dermatology (specially females). It causes a significant psychosocial distress and decreased quality of life in affected patients and exists in different types, but the most common types are androgenetic alopecia and telogen effluvium (TE).

The demand for durable, resistant, and high-strength structural material has led to the use of fibers as reinforcing elements. This paper presents an investigation into the inclusion of chopped steel wool fibers (CSWFs) in cement to form a high-flexural strength cementitious composite matrix (CCM). CSWFs were used as the primary reinforcement in CCM at increments of 0.

Article Synopsis
  • In 2008, guidelines were established for researching autophagy, which has since gained significant interest and new technologies, necessitating regular updates to monitoring methods across various organisms.
  • The new guidelines emphasize selecting appropriate techniques to evaluate autophagy while noting that no single method suits all situations; thus, a combination of methods is encouraged.
  • The document highlights that key proteins involved in autophagy also impact other cellular processes, suggesting genetic studies should focus on multiple autophagy-related genes to fully understand these pathways.

Globally, stroke is a leading cause of death and disability. Traditional risk factors like hypertension, diabetes, and obesity do not fully account for all stroke cases. Recent infection is regarded as changes in systemic immune signaling, which can increase thrombosis formation and other stroke risk factors.

Article Synopsis
  • Pseudofolliculitis barbae (PFB) is a chronic inflammation in the beard area, primarily affecting males but can also affect females with coarse hair; its treatment can be complicated.
  • A study compared the effectiveness and safety of long pulsed Nd:YAG laser treatment versus chemical peeling in 20 male patients with PFB, assessing progress through clinical evaluations and patient feedback after multiple sessions.
  • Results showed that laser therapy significantly reduced papules and pustules more effectively than chemical peeling, with both treatments being effective but the laser treatment having a better safety profile despite some side effects like pain and transient hyperpigmentation.

The objectives of the present study were to characterize subsp. (MAP) infection using serological and molecular tools and investigate the distribution and molecular characterization of MAP strains (cattle (C) and sheep (S) types) in sheep, goat, cattle, and camel herds in Eastern Province, Saudi Arabia. Serum and fecal samples were collected from all animals aged >2 years old in 31 herds (sheep = 8, goats = 6, cattle = 8 and camels = 9) from January to December 2019.

Aim: To investigate the glucosuric, renal and haemodynamic effects of licogliflozin, a dual sodium-glucose co-transporter-1 and sodium-glucose co-transporter-2 inhibitor, in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD).

Methods: This multiple-dose, parallel-group, phase II mechanistic study randomized 53 participants (aged 18-78 years, body mass index ≤ 50 kg/m ) with varying degrees of CKD or normal renal function to treatment with licogliflozin (50 mg once daily) or placebo for 7 days. The effects of licogliflozin on 24-h urinary glucose excretion (UGE ), renal function, haemodynamics, pharmacokinetics and safety were assessed.

The prevalence of asthma has been rising steadily for several decades, and continues to be a major public health and global economic burden due to both direct and indirect costs. Asthma is defined as chronic heterogeneous inflammatory diseases characterized by airway obstruction, mucus production and bronchospasm. Different endotypes of asthma are being recognized based on the distinct pathophysiology, genetic predisposition, age, prognosis, and response to remedies.

Background: Abnormal autophagy is known to be associated with the pathogenesis of some skin disorders. The protein Beclin1 plays a central role in the machinery of autophagy.

Aim: To assess the expression of Beclin1 in psoriasis, using immunohistochemical study in lesional and perilesional skin in patients with psoriasis, and to compare the results with those of an apparently healthy control (HC) group.

Objectives: There is cumulative evidence in the literature supporting a potential role of faecal calprotectin (FCP) as a biomarker for gut inflammation in spondyloarthritis (SpA). However its relevance in undifferentiated SpA (USpA) is still uncertain. The aim of the current study is to assess the diagnostic significance of FCP levels in patients with differentiated and undifferentiated SpA.

Introduction: After hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) interventional therapies, noninvasive vascular diagnostic imaging [duplex, Color/power Doppler ultrasonography, and triphasic computed tomography (CT)] determines the lesion complete/incomplete ablation. The aim was to analyze the usefulness of duplex, color/power Doppler ultrasonography in HCC ablation after percutaneous ablative therapies (PATs).

Methods: We included 30 patients with 33 HCCs subjected to duplex/Doppler ultrasonography, ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration cytology (FNAC), and triphasic CT, all these before and after PATs.

Background: Mitochondria play a key role in immune defense pathways, particularly for macrophages. We and others have previously demonstrated that cystic fibrosis (CF) macrophages exhibit weak autophagy activity and exacerbated inflammatory responses. Previous studies have revealed that mitochondria are defective in CF epithelial cells, but to date, the connection between defective mitochondrial function and CF macrophage immune dysregulation has not been fully elucidated.

Pim-1 kinase targeted recently has proved an essential goal of breast cancer therapy. We report the design, synthesis with full characterization analysis of pyrazolo[3,4-b]pyridine scaffold-based derivatives targeting Pim-1 kinase as anti-breast cancer agents. All the newly synthesized compounds were screened for their in vitro cytotoxic activity against two breast cancer cell lines MCF-7 and MDA-MB-231, and non-cancerous MCF-10A cells.
