A multicenter study involving 204 adults with relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS) assessed the dimensionality and item characteristics of the Mishel-Uncertainty of Illness Scale (MUIS), a generic self-assessment tool. Mokken analysis identified two dimensions in the MUIS with an appropriate item and overall scale scalability after excluding nonclassifiable items. A refined 12-item MUIS, employing a grade response model, effectively discriminated uncertainty levels among RRMS patients (likelihood ratio test -value = .

Article Synopsis
  • Calcitonine Gen-Related Peptide (CGRP) has improved understanding of migraines, leading to new drugs targeting the condition, particularly anti-CGRP monoclonal antibodies.
  • A study with 63 migraine patients revealed that these treatments reduced migraine days per month by approximately 50% and were generally well-tolerated, although some experienced side effects like constipation.
  • Despite the lack of clear predictors for treatment response, longer-lasting therapies may be necessary for those with more frequent migraines, as discontinuation often resulted in relapse.

Article Synopsis
  • A study was conducted to compare the incidence of post-dural puncture headache (PDPH) after using two types of spinal needles: atraumatic (Sprotte) and traumatic (Quincke).
  • Results showed that the incidence of PDPH was significantly lower for the atraumatic needle (8.51%) compared to the traumatic needle (22.43%), and the duration of PDPH was shorter for patients who received the atraumatic needle.
  • The findings support the use of atraumatic needles in lumbar punctures to reduce the risk and duration of PDPH, highlighting their effectiveness in preventing this common adverse event.
