Prehospital Buprenorphine in Treating Symptoms of Opioid Withdrawal - A Descriptive Review of the First 131 Cases in San Francisco, CA.

Objectives: Opioid use disorder (OUD) remains a common cause of overdose and mortality in the United States. Emergency medical services (EMS) clinicians often interact with patients with OUD, including during or shortly after an overdose. The aim of this study was to describe the characteristics and outcomes of patients receiving prehospital buprenorphine for the treatment of opioid withdrawal in an urban EMS system.

Validation of a Clinical Prediction Rule for Distinguishing Bacterial and Aseptic Meningitis in Pediatric Patients.

Introduction The treatments and prognosis of bacterial meningitis differ greatly from those of aseptic meningitis, making early identification and differentiation essential. Several different clinical prediction rules have been developed to distinguish bacterial meningitis from aseptic meningitis. We sought to validate one clinical prediction rule for pediatric patients utilizing a centralized data warehouse that collects daily data from 184 hospitals across the United States.

Isolated tubal torsion following bilateral tubal ligation: A case report and literature review.

A 44-year-old woman with a history of bilateral tubal ligation presented with severe abdominal pain and nausea, and despite unremarkable imaging was subsequently found to have a torsed, necrotic fallopian tube without associated ovarian pathology. Isolated torsion of the fallopian tube without ovarian involvement is rare. A systematic literature review found 8 case reports of isolated tubal torsion in patients with a history of tubal ligation.
