Patient experiences with telehealth treatment for opioid use disorder in Alabama.

Introduction: Telehealth-only provision of buprenorphine for the treatment of opioid use disorder (OUD) was first made possible during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, Alabama instituted a law in July 2022 that mandated an annual in-person visit in order to receive this treatment. In July 2023, our usually telehealth-only group established a temporary clinic in Birmingham to meet this requirement.

Treatment of poppy seed tea misuse with buprenorphine in a telehealth practice: a case series.

Background: Poppy seed tea (PST) is a legally obtainable source of opiates made from the seeds of the opium poppy. Our large telehealth opioid use disorder (OUD) provider group has treated several patients with PST misuse.

Methods: We retrospectively identified patients with primary PST use disorder treated with buprenorphine in a telehealth-only practice with first visits between January 2021 and December 2022.

Health and home environments of caregivers of children investigated by child protective services.

Objective: The goal was to describe the mental and physical health of caregivers and the home environments of children who have been investigated by child protective services (CPS).

Methods: Subjects were 5299 children 0 to 14 years of age, from the National Survey of Child and Adolescent Well-being, a cohort study of children investigated by CPS. The Short-Form Health Survey was used to measure mental and physical health.
