Article Synopsis
  • An innovative toothbrush was created with a rotatable shank and a flexible design to improve access to all surfaces of the mouth, aimed at reducing plaque and improving gingival health.
  • A randomized controlled trial compared this rotatable shank toothbrush with traditional flexible and straight handle toothbrushes to see which was more effective for plaque control and gingival health outcomes.
  • Results showed that the rotatable shank toothbrush provided better improvements in plaque removal and gingival health compared to the other types of toothbrushes used in the study.

Lipoxins and ATL appear to be the first recognized members of a new class of endogenous mediator that are anti-inflammatory or serve for the "pro-resolution" of inflammation. PGE2 can and may display anti-inflammatory properties in certain settings, but in most cases, it enhances inflammation in vivo. This is likely the result of numerous receptor isoforms and differential coupled mechanisms for PGE2 and its diverse role in human physiology.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to determine the incidence of gingival overgrowth caused by amlodipine, which is not well understood.
  • The research involved 115 dental patients who had taken amlodipine for over 3 months, diagnosing gingival overgrowth through clinical observations and checking for improvements after stopping the drug.
  • Results showed that 3.4% of patients experienced gingival hyperplasia, particularly in the front teeth area, indicating a link between the severity of gingival inflammation and the dosage of the medication.

Background: Among the cells involved in immune and inflammatory responses in periodontal disease, mast cells have been shown to be capable of generating a large number of biologically active substances. Mast cells are mobile, bone-marrow-derived, granule-containing immune cells that are found in all connective tissue and mucosal environments and in the peripheral and central nervous systems. Mast cells are able to phagocytose, process and present antigens as effectively as macrophages.

World Health Organization defines palliative care as the active total care of patients whose disease is not responding to curative treatment. Palliative care for the terminally ill is based on a multidimensional approach to provide whole-person comfort care while maintaining optimal function; dental care plays an important role in this multidisciplinary approach. The aim of the present study is to review significance of dentist's role to determine whether mouth care was effectively assessed and implemented in the palliative care setting.
