Spousal loss among older persons is an emerging public health concern. Older adults from Pakistan's Sindh province may be particularly vulnerable when encountering the tragedy of spousal loss due to their age. Although resilience in older persons who live in social isolation has been researched extensively, less is known about older Sindhi adults' experience of how they achieve resilience after late-life spousal loss, and what different ways of achieving resilience are used by male and female older persons.

Background: Chat Generative Pre-Trained Transformer (ChatGPT) has been tested and has passed various high-level examinations. However, it has not been tested on an examination such as the American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA) Standardized Oral Examination (SOE). The SOE is designed to assess higher-level competencies, such as judgment, organization, adaptability to unexpected clinical changes, and presentation of information.

Human Herpesvirus 8 (HHV-8) Staining: A Savior in Early Kaposi Sarcoma.

Kaposi sarcoma (KS) is a low-grade vascular neoplasm associated with human herpesvirus 8 (HHV-8) infection. The disease has various phases, and the morphology of the lesion may vary, especially in the early course of the disease, where the morphological features may not be even suggestive of Kaposi sarcoma. The authors take this opportunity to report a case of Kaposi sarcoma where the diagnosis was established because of HHV-8 staining rather than its histopathological features.

Incidence, predictors and outcomes of redo pancreatectomy in infants with congenital hyperinsulinism: a 16-year tertiary center experience.

Purpose: Recurrent severe hypoglycemic attacks often persist even after performing pancreatectomy for medically unresponsive congenital hyperinsulinism (CHI). In this study, we present our experience with redo pancreatectomy for CHI.

Methods: We reviewed all children who underwent pancreatectomy for CHI between January 2005 and April 2021 in our center.

Background: Acute respiratory failure develops quickly in patients with a severe form of coronavirus disease (COVID-19), caused by the severe acute respiratory syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS‑CoV‑2). Despite being commonly acknowledged as a measure of the body's overall iron storage, ferritin's predictive value is associated with COVID-19.

Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the relationship between COVID-19 and serum ferritin levels as the biochemical markers of SARS-CoV-2 infection in Sulaymaniyah, Iraq.

Pyridine and isoxazole substituted 3-formylindole-based chitosan Schiff base polymer: Antimicrobial, antioxidant and in vitro cytotoxicity studies on THP-1 cells.

This paper presents the synthesis of two new chitosan Schiff base (CSB) polymers, namely, 2PCT and 4MCT based on pyridin-2-ylmethyl-1H-indole-3-carbaldehyde and 1-(4-methyl-3,5-dimethylisoxazole)-1H-indole-3-carbaldehyde with chitosan (CT). The structural features of CSB polymers were confirmed by Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) and proton nuclear magnetic resonance (H NMR) spectroscopy and their antimicrobial activity was evaluated against Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli and Candida albicans. The antioxidant studies found that both 2PCT and 4MCT presented significant free radical scavenging activity with IC at 169.

Conservative Management of an Unusual Congenital Abdominal Wall Defect: A Case Report.

Congenital abdominal wall defects comprise a spectrum of anatomical anomalies of the abdominal wall. Most of these anomalies are located in the midline. However, in rare cases, it was lateral and usually found to be a fascial defect with intact skin coverage.

3-Formylindole-based chitosan Schiff base polymer: Antioxidant and in vitro cytotoxicity studies on THP-1 cells.

Two imine derivatives of chitosan (i-CTs), namely 2FCT and 5MCT, were synthesized by reacting chitosan (CT) with 2-(3-formyl-1H-indol-1yl)acetonitrile (2F), and 5-methoxyindole-3-carbaldehyde (5M), respectively. The antimicrobial evaluation of i-CTs exhibited stronger inhibition effect against Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli and Candida albicans. The antioxidant activity of 2FCT and 5MCT showed strong scavenging ability with IC 2.

Stigma and mental health problems in an Indian context. Perceptions of people with mental disorders in urban, rural and tribal areas of Kerala.

Background: The concept of stigma has been widely used to understand patterns of discrimination and negative ideas surrounding people with mental health problems, yet we know little of the specific nuances of how this might operate beyond the 'Global North'.

Aim: This paper aims to explore the notion of stigma in an Indian context by considering the lived experience of patients, carers and community members.

Methods: A sample of 204 participants, representing mental health patients, informal carers and community members was recruited from urban and rural areas in Kerala, India.

Telemedicine Practice in Saudi Arabia During the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Objectives: The COVID-19 pandemic has led to an increased use of telemedicine. The primary objective of the study was to evaluate attitudes and behaviors of licensed physicians in the region to telemedicine.

Methodology: A cross-sectional design using an electronic survey as the primary tool was done.

BanglaWriting: A multi-purpose offline Bangla handwriting dataset.

This article presents a Bangla handwriting dataset named BanglaWriting that contains single-page handwritings of 260 individuals of different personalities and ages. Each page includes bounding-boxes that bounds each word, along with the unicode representation of the writing. This dataset contains 21,234 words and 32,787 characters in total.

Knowledge of Glaucoma Among Patients Attending Virtual and Face-to-Face Glaucoma Clinics.

Precis: No significant difference in knowledge of glaucoma was found among patients attending virtual and face-to-face glaucoma clinics. Gaps in knowledge were identified in both groups highlighting the importance of incorporating patient education into glaucoma services.

The Clinical and Laboratory Impact of Upgrading Clostridioides (formerly Clostridium) difficile Infection Testing from Routine to Molecular Based-Algorithm: an Observational Case-Study from the Eastern Province, Saudi Arabia.

Background: Clostridioides (formerly Clostridium) difficile infection (CDI) is linked to misuse of antimicrobials. The prevalence of disease varies with difficulties of establishing the diagnosis because of the lack of sensitivity and specificity of laboratory tests. The clinical impact of upgrading CDI testing from routine to molecular based-algorithm is still unclear.

In order to clarify vortex mechanisms under a turbulent flow field to explain enhanced biomass productivity, computational fluid dynamics and a miniature Doppler velocimeter were employed to investigate the promoted vorticity magnitude and turbulent kinetic energy to support the increased actual photochemical efficiency of Arthrospira platensis in a raceway pond with alternatively permutated conic baffles. Results showed that whereas the first two parameters increased by 5.9 and 13.

The CO fixation rate was improved with increased trichome length of the Spirulina sp.

Carcinoma erysipeloides as a presenting feature of breast carcinoma: A case report and brief review of literature.

Carcinoma erysipeloides (CE) is an uncommon but distinctive form of cutaneous metastasis that usually manifests clinically as a fixed erythematous patch or plaque resembling cellulitis or erysipelas. The inflamed area may show a distinct raised edge at the periphery and also edema secondary to lymphatic obstruction. Histologically, dense carcinoma cells in the dermal vascular channels and dense perivascular lymphocytic infiltrate may be seen.

Localized and linear lichen planopilaris over the face and scalp with associated alopecia - clinical and dermoscopy pattern.

A case of localized lichen planopilaris over the face, extending to the scalp is presented.This case highlights the different variations, which can occur in the presentation of localized lichen planus. The case was unique because of the extension of the lesions into the scalp.

Saudi practical guidelines on biologic treatment of psoriasis.

The current treatment of psoriasis patients with biologic agents in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) is mainly based on clinical experience. Although there are published international guidelines for treatment with biologics, such as the European S3 guidelines (a joint project of the European Dermatology Forum, the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology, and the International Psoriasis Council), many nations have found it beneficial to develop country-based guidelines that incorporate specific regional aspects of therapy (legal and practical). With the expanded role of biologic agents in the treatment of psoriasis in Saudi Arabia, a need for local Saudi guidelines has become evident.

Nevus lipomatosus cutaneous superficialis with focal lipocytic pagetoid epidermal spread and secondary calcinosis cutis: a case report.

A case of nevus lipomatosus cutaneous superficialis is presented, wherein the lesion occurred as a gluteal swelling in a 6-year-old boy. On histopathology examination, it consisted of typical superficial expanses of mature adipose tissue in the papillary dermis of the polypoidal lesion. It was accompanied by 2 unusual findings, which consisted of the focal presence of lipocytes at the epidermal–dermal junction in the pagetoid manner and the prominent deposition of calcium resulting in calcinosis cutis–like lesions.

Nevus comedonicus of the scalp.

A 10-year-old boy presented to us with a localized patch of hair loss on the scalp, first noticed by his mother a few months after birth. The lesion had shown very little increase in size since that time. There was a history of occasional redness and discharge from the lesion, which used to be controlled with topical applications.
