Objectives: The prospective effect of phytoestrogen-rich supplements has been explored by many researchers in an attempt to reduce breast cancer (BC) risk worldwide. In Saudi Arabia, some widely used supplements have high phytoestrogen content. Therefore, we aimed to (1) assess the relationship between phytoestrogen supplements (PSs) that are widely used among women of Saudi Arabia and BC and (2) assess the relationship based on the menstrual status.

This article focuses the recovery of prokaryotic organisms including bacteria and archaea from 9 different groups of chicken raised in different farm setups in Pakistan. The groups comprise of three different breeds (Broilers, White Layers, and Black Australorp) of chicken raised in different farming setups that include antibiotic-free control, commercial (open and controlled shed), and backyard farms. We have recovered 569 Metagenomics-Assembled Genomes (MAGs) with a completeness of ≥50 % and contamination of ≤10 %.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to assess the impact of purse-string vs. linear closure techniques on surgical site infections (SSI) and scar aesthetics in stoma reversal patients.
  • Conducted over one year at the University of Child Health Sciences, the trial involved 124 patients split into two groups: one receiving linear closure and the other purse-string closure.
  • Results showed that the purse-string technique significantly reduced SSI rates (14.5% vs. 38.7%) and led to better scar quality, indicating it as a more effective method for skin closure in these surgeries.

Withania coagulans is a valuable medicinal plant with high demand, but its wild growth and local usage pose a threat to its natural habitat. This study aims to understand the plant's growth, anatomy, and physiology in different environmental conditions to aid in conservation and re-vegetation efforts. Fifteen differently adapted populations of Withania coagulans were collected from diverse ecological regions, viz.

Article Synopsis
  • L. is a resilient perennial grass found in various environments, including harsh deserts, with a study focusing on its adaptations to aridity in Punjab, Pakistan.
  • Populations thriving in extreme dryness showed notable structural changes, such as increased root epidermal and leaf thickness, alongside a decrease in root pith cell area.
  • Key survival strategies for these grass populations included the accumulation of organic osmolytes like glycinebetaine and proline, which help retain water and manage stress in arid conditions.

In recent years, there has been an unprecedented advancement in analytical approaches that contribute to the mechanistic understanding of microbial communities by explicitly incorporating ecology and studying their assembly. In this study, we have analyzed the temporal profiles of the healthy broiler cecal microbiome from day 3 to day 35 to recover the stable and varying components of microbial communities. During this period, the broilers were fed three different diets chronologically, and therefore, we have recovered signature microbial species that dominate during each dietary regime.

Infectious hypodermal hematopoietic necrosis virus (IHHNV/PstDVI) was isolated and propagated in the hybrid shrimp-insect cell line PmLyO-Sf9. A few hours after inoculation with an infected tissue extract or virus suspension, cytopathic changes could be observed in the cell line, including clustering, enlargement, syncytium formation, granulation, vacuole formation, tapering, irregularities in the plasma membrane with extended tails, detachment, cell death, and accumulation of cellular debris. Expression of viral genes, the presence of virions, and cytological changes observed using transmission electron microscopy suggested replication of the virus in these cells.

Soil salinization has become a major issue around the world in recent years, as it is one of the consequences of climate change as sea levels rise. It is crucial to lessen the severe consequences of soil salinization on plants. A pot experiment was conducted to regulate the physiological and biochemical mechanisms in order to evaluate the ameliorative effects of potassium nitrate (KNO) on L.

Sorafenib, a multikinase inhibitor, is a first-line treatment for advanced hepatocellular carcinoma, but its long-term effectiveness is limited by the emergence of resistance mechanisms. One such mechanism is the reduction of microvessel density and intratumoral hypoxia caused by prolonged sorafenib treatment. Our research has demonstrated that HSP90 plays a critical role in conferring resistance to sorafenib in HepG2 cells under hypoxic conditions and N-Nitrosodiethylamine-exposed mice as well.

Kaposi sarcoma (KS) is a low-grade vascular neoplasm associated with human herpesvirus 8 (HHV-8) infection. The disease has various phases, and the morphology of the lesion may vary, especially in the early course of the disease, where the morphological features may not be even suggestive of Kaposi sarcoma. The authors take this opportunity to report a case of Kaposi sarcoma where the diagnosis was established because of HHV-8 staining rather than its histopathological features.
