Unlocking the potential of robotic-assisted bronchoscopy: overcoming challenging anatomy and locations.

Robotic-assisted bronchoscopy (RAB) was recently added to the armamentarium of tools used in sampling peripheral lung nodules. Protocols and guidelines have since been published advocating use of large oral artificial airways, use of confirmatory technologies such as radial endobronchial ultrasound (R-EBUS), and preferably limiting sampling to pulmonary parenchymal lesions. We present three clinical cases where RAB was used unconventionally to sample pulmonary nodules in unusual locations and in patients with challenging airway anatomy.

Endovascular straightening of the internal carotid artery during mechanical thrombectomy: The "tightrope technique".

Mechanical thrombectomy is a standard treatment for acute stroke, but it can be technically challenging in elderly patients with difficult vascular anatomy. To overcome this issue, we propose a new endovascular approach called the "tightrope" technique. This technique uses a stiff guidewire and a standard angiographic catheter to straighten the internal carotid artery (ICA) tortuosity, allowing the guiding catheter to be positioned next to the intracranial level.

Additional evidence of the role of COVID-19 vaccination in reducing pneumonia frequency and severity in the setting of breakthrough infection could help combat ongoing vaccine hesitancy. The purpose of this article was to compare the frequency and severity of pneumonia on chest CT in patients with confirmed COVID-19 between patients who are unvaccinated and those who are fully vaccinated by messenger RNA (mRNA) or adenovirus vector vaccines. This retrospective single-center study included 467 patients (250 men, 217 women; mean age, 65 ± 17 [SD] years) who underwent chest CT between December 15, 2021, and February 18, 2022, during hospitalization for symptomatic COVID-19, confirmed by reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction assay.

Diagnostic accuracy and interobserver variability of CO-RADS in patients with suspected coronavirus disease-2019: a multireader validation study.

Objective: To conduct a multireader validation study to evaluate the interobserver variability and the diagnostic accuracy for the lung involvement by COVID-19 of COVID-19 Reporting and Data System (CO-RADS) score.

Methods: This retrospective study included consecutive symptomatic patients who underwent chest CT and reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) from March 2020 to May 2020 for suspected COVID-19. Twelve readers with different levels of expertise independently scored each CT using the CO-RADS scheme for detecting pulmonary involvement by COVID-19.

Atrial Metastasis From Sarcomatoid Renal Cell Carcinoma: Integration Between 18F-FDG PET/CT and Cardiac 3-Dimensional Volume Rendering.

We describe the case of a 54-year-old woman, previously submitted to nephrectomy for sarcomatoid renal cell carcinoma and treated with antibiotics because of central venous catheter infection. An F-FDG PET/CT scan was obtained that demonstrated bone and lymph node metastases and also disclosed an irregular area of highly increased uptake (SUVmax 19.4) in the right atrium.

Treatment of visceral artery aneurysms and pseudoaneurysms with the use of cerebral flow diverting stents: initial experience.

Background: Flow-diverter stents (FDS) are designed to maintain laminar flow in the parent artery and sidebranches and to promote thrombosis of the aneurysm. Although these devices were developed for use in intracranial circulation, FDS could be employed to treat aneurysms regardless of their location, when anatomic factors may limit the efficacy of classic endovascular techniques. The objective of this study is to describe the initial experience of a single center in the treatment of visceral artery aneurysms and pseudoaneurysms (VAA-VAP) with cerebral FDS, analyzing safety, efficacy and 1-year outcome.

Percutaneous Pharmaco-Mechanical Thrombectomy of Acute Symptomatic Superior Mesenteric Vein Thrombosis.

Purpose: To evaluate the safety and the efficacy of percutaneous pharmaco-mechanical thrombectomy (PPMT) of acute superior mesenteric vein (SMV) thrombosis.

Methods: A database of patients treated between 2011 and 2018 with acute venous mesenteric ischemia (VMI) was reviewed. VMI was diagnosed in the presence of SMV thrombosis and CT evidence of jejunal thickening.

Treatment of thyroid nodules with radiofrequency: a 1-year follow-up experience.

Purpose: The aim of this study is to assess the effectiveness and safety of radiofrequency ablation (RFA) in debulking benign solid thyroid nodules.

Materials And Methods: This is a retrospective review of 77 patients with predominantly solid thyroid nodules treated with RFA in a single center between 2013 and 2016. All patients declined or were not eligible for surgery.

Pharmacomechanical catheter-directed thrombolysis for acute iliofemoral deep vein thrombosis: our case series.

Between December 2005 and November 2006, a survey on coccidiosis of wild and captive mouflons living in the Orecchiella Natural Reserve (Tuscany, Italy) was performed on faecal samples collected approximately every two months. A total of 96 samples were collected, 55 of which from wild mouflons and 41 from captive mouflons. On these faecal samples qualitative and quantitative parasitological analyses were performed; moreover, faecal cultures were made in order to identify the involved Eimeria species.

[Use of endoprosthesis in the treatment of airway pathology].

In patients affected by benign or malignant inoperable airway obstructions, therapeutical options include endoscopic treatment by Nd-YAG laser therapy, tracheobronchial dilatations with rigid or flexible bronchoscope, and inflating balloon dilators. Metal self-expanding or silicone stents allow to obtain stable results.
