One-stage long-stem total knee arthroplasty for arthritic knees with stress fractures.

PURPOSE. To evaluate the outcome of one-stage long-stem total knee arthroplasty (TKA) for patients with arthritic knees and tibiofemoral stress fractures. METHODS.

High-flexion mobile-bearing knees: impact on patellofemoral outcomes in 159 patients.

Ethnic cultural demands of the patient have encouraged surgeons to use high-flexion designs. It has been speculated that these high-flexion designs may produce higher incidence of patellofemoral complications over conventional designs. We wish to report 5- to 7-year follow-up of this design with special emphasis on patellofemoral outcomes.

Simultaneous bilateral total knee replacement: a prospective study of 150 patients.

Purpose: To evaluate the safety of simultaneous bilateral total knee replacement (TKR).

Methods: 124 women and 26 men (mean age, 66 years) underwent simultaneous bilateral TKR for tricompartmental osteoarthritis using a posteriorstabilised, high-flexion implant. All patients underwent dobutamine stress echocardiography for detection of any silent cardiac comorbidity by a cardiologist.

Outcome of subvastus approach in elderly nonobese patients undergoing bilateral simultaneous total knee arthroplasty: A randomized controlled study.

Background: Subvastus approach in total knee arthroplasty (TKA) spares the quadriceps and may assist in faster rehabilitation. The present randomised controlled study was conducted to determine if the subvastus approach results in early recovery, faster mobilization, shorter hospital stay, and improved function.

Materials And Methods: 100 patients undergoing simultaneous bilateral TKA were randomized into two groups: subvastus group and medial parapatellar group.

Total hip arthroplasty for failed aseptic Austin Moore prosthesis.

Background: Though Austin Moore (AM) replacement prosthesis has fairly good short term results for intracapsular femoral neck fractures in the elderly, it still is a compromised option and has a high failure rate in the long run. The objective of the present retrospective study is to analyze the functional outcome, assess survivorship of revision total hip arthroplasty (THA) at mid to long term followup, and evaluate intraoperative difficulties faced during conversion of failed aseptic AM prosthesis to cemented THA.

Materials And Methods: Eighty-nine cemented THA surgeries for failed AM prosthesis were performed between 1986 and 2005.

Bilateral Anterior Shoulder Dislocation with Symmetrical Greater Tuberosity Fracture following Seizure.

Introduction: Majority of bilateral shoulder dislocations are posterior. Simultaneous bilateral anterior shoulder dislocations and bilateral anterior fracture-dislocations are rare and mostly of traumatic origin. We present a rare case of bilateral anterior shoulder dislocation with symmetrical greater tuberosity fracture following an episode of seizure with an unusual injury mechanism which was treated conservatively.

Unilateral glenoid hypoplasia: a case report and review of the literature.

Glenoid hypoplasia is a relatively rare alteration that in most cases involves the pectoral girdle in a bilateral and symmetrical manner. In general, glenoid hypoplasia is associated with skeletal changes such as hypoplasia of the humeral head or changes in the morphology of the acromion and of the coracoid. We describe a rare case of unilateral glenoid hypoplasia without instability and not involving humeral head.
