Purpose: After recent policy and practice changes, health care schools are expected to involve patients as partners in the management, design, and delivery of professional curricula. However, what these partnerships mean for academic communities and the processes needed to support them are not yet understood. This study examines what involving patients as partners within an academic community means for key stakeholders.

Objectives: To identify the components of therapeutic empathy based on a review of existing definitions.

Methods: A search for therapeutic empathy definitions was conducted in two stages. First, a list of empathy definitions from within healthcare contexts was compiled using existing systematic reviews and a database of empathy definitions.

Background: The Spectrum of Involvement describes six levels of active patient involvement in healthcare education. Only at the highest levels are patients described as 'equal partners'. Although this framework was never intended to be hierarchical, healthcare educators continue to strive towards aspirations for involving patients as 'equal partners' in education.

How does communication affect patient safety? Protocol for a systematic review and logic model.

Introduction: One in 10 patients are harmed in healthcare, more than three million deaths occur annually worldwide due to patient safety incidents, and the economic burden of patient safety incidents accounts for 15% of hospital expenditure. Poor communication between patients and practitioners is a significant contributor to patient safety incidents. This study aims to evaluate the extent to which patient safety is affected by communication and to provide a logic model that illustrates how communication impacts patient safety.

Interventions to promote medical student well-being: an overview of systematic reviews.

Objective: To conduct an overview of systematic reviews that explore the effectiveness of interventions to enhance medical student well-being.

Design: Overview of systematic reviews.

Data Sources: The Cochrane Library of Systematic Reviews, MEDLINE, APA PsychInfo, CINAHL and Scopus were searched from database inception until 31 May 2023 to identify systematic reviews of interventions to enhance medical student well-being.

A theoretical systematic review of patient involvement in health and social care education.

Patient involvement in health and social care education lacks theoretical underpinning, despite increasing calls for rigour. Theories help explain how learning is advanced and offer guidance for how faculty work with patients who become involved in curriculum delivery. We conducted a systematic review to synthesise how theory shapes our understanding of patient involvement in health and social care education.
