Introduction: Heterogeneity of segmentation protocols for medial temporal lobe regions and hippocampal subfields on magnetic resonance imaging hinders the ability to integrate findings across studies. We aim to develop a harmonized protocol based on expert consensus and histological evidence.

Methods: Our international working group, funded by the EU Joint Programme-Neurodegenerative Disease Research (JPND), is working toward the production of a reliable, validated, harmonized protocol for segmentation of medial temporal lobe regions.

Probiotic effect of Bifidobacterium longum 5 and Weissella paramesenteroides WpK4 on gerbils infected with Giardia lamblia.

Aims: The objective of this study was to assess the probiotic potential of genuine strains of Bifidobacterium longum 5 and Weissella paramesenteroides WpK4, in experimental giardiasis.

Methods And Results: The bacteria were administered orally to gerbils (Meriones unguiculatus) 10 days before oral infection with trophozoites of Giardia lamblia. After 7 days of infection, the animals were euthanized and portions of the duodenum were processed for histopathologic, histochemical and morphometric assessment.

Antifungal (oral and vaginal) therapy for recurrent vulvovaginal candidiasis: a systematic review protocol.

Introduction: Vulvovaginal candidiasis (VVC) is frequent in women worldwide and usually responds rapidly to topical or oral antifungal therapy. However, some women develop recurrent vulvovaginal candidiasis (RVVC), which is arbitrarily defined as four or more episodes every year. RVVC is a debilitating, long-term condition that can severely affect the quality of life of women.

Background: Excoriation disorder (ED) is characterized by recurring excoriation of the skin resulting in tissue damage, usually associated with emotional deregulation. Psychotherapy is a valuable treatment; however, no studies emphasize the patients' interactional aspect, nor the potential benefit of group treatment.

Methods: We recruited a convenience sample of 38 individuals with ED according to DSM-5 criteria, in which 19 individuals proceeded to treatment, 10 with psychodrama group therapy (PGT), and 9 with support group therapy (SGT) in an open pilot study.

Mycoplasma suis, the etiological agent of swine hemoplasmosis, is an epicellular bacterium that adheres to the surface of pig erythrocytes leading to deformations of the target cells. Little is known about the occurrence of M. suis in wild swine populations around the world, its economic impact on swine herds, and the risk of human infection.

High frequency and molecular characterization of porcine hemotrophic mycoplasmas in Brazil.

There are few studies on the genetic diversity of Anaplasma marginale in Brazilian cattle herds, especially about beef cattle. The objective of this study was to evaluate the genetic diversity of A. marginale, based on the msp1α gene in Bos taurus indicus sampled from the Brazilian Pantanal.

Comparison of hypothesis- and data-driven asthma phenotypes in NHANES 2007-2012: the importance of comprehensive data availability.

Background: Half of the adults with current asthma among the US National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) participants could be classified in more than one hypothesis-driven phenotype. A data-driven approach applied to the same subjects may allow a more useful classification compared to the hypothesis-driven one.

Antimicrobial Photodynamic Therapy associated with long term success in endodontic treatment with separated instruments: A case report.

This paper describes a case with a 5- year follow-up of Antimicrobial Photodynamic Therapy (aPDT) associated with long-term success in endodontic treatment in a tooth with separated instruments. The patient presented with a tooth exhibiting a periapical lesion, slight swelling, and severe pain. A radiograph revealed the presence of two separated files in the middle and apical thirds of the mesial root on a lower first molar.

Plastid Genomes and Proteins Illuminate the Evolution of Eustigmatophyte Algae and Their Bacterial Endosymbionts.

Eustigmatophytes, a class of stramenopile algae (ochrophytes), include not only the extensively studied biotechnologically important genus Nannochloropsis but also a rapidly expanding diversity of lineages with much less well characterized biology. Recent discoveries have led to exciting additions to our knowledge about eustigmatophytes. Some proved to harbor bacterial endosymbionts representing a novel genus, Candidatus Phycorickettsia, and an operon of unclear function (ebo) obtained by horizontal gene transfer from the endosymbiont lineage was found in the plastid genomes of still other eustigmatophytes.

Studies have evidenced more severe health consequences in individuals who smoked crack cocaine as compared to intranasal cocaine users. Differential neurocognitive deficits between the crack and intranasal cocaine-addicted patients, associated with prefrontal cortex functions, have never been tested using complex cognitive tasks in humans.
