The postweaning phase is stressful for rabbits due to maternal separation and the introduction of solid feed. Stress can be aggravated when animals are subjected to thermal discomfort. Therefore, thermal variables, such as air temperature, which influence the productive and physiological performance of animals, require greater control in this phase of life of rabbits to ensure their well-being and productive efficiency.

Crosslinking mass spectrometry (XL-MS) has the potential to map the interactome of the cell with high resolution and depth of coverage. However, current in vivo XL-MS methods are hampered by crosslinkers that demonstrate low cell permeability and require long reaction times. Consequently, interactome sampling is not high and long incubation times can distort the cell, bringing into question the validity any protein interactions identified by the method.

Autophagic flux plays a crucial role in various diseases. Recently, the lysosomal ion channel TRPML1 has emerged as a promising target in lysosomal storage diseases, such as mucolipidosis. The discovery of mucolipin synthetic agonist-1 (ML-SA1) has expanded our understanding of TRPML1's function and its potential therapeutic uses.

As data and computing power have surged in recent decades, statistical modeling has become an important tool for understanding ecological patterns and processes. Statistical modeling in ecology faces two major challenges. First, ecological data may not conform to traditional methods, and second, professional ecologists often do not receive extensive statistical training.

This work assessed the influence of the amount of dentifrice and fluoride (F) concentration in the product on the pH and inorganic components of and dual-species biofilms. The biofilms were treated with suspensions of fluoride dentifrices containing 550 or 1100 ppm of F (550 F or 1100 F, respectively) administered at comparable intensities: (i-1) 550 F/0.08 g or 1100 F/0.

The connection between contextuality and graph theory has paved the way for numerous advancements in the field. One notable development is the realization that sets of probability distributions in many contextuality scenarios can be effectively described using well-established convex sets from graph theory. This geometric approach allows for a beautiful characterization of these sets.

The objectives of this retrospective observational study were to investigate the association between BCS at 21 d before calving with prepartum and postpartum DMI, energy balance (EB), and milk yield. Data from 427 multigravid cows from 11 different experiments conducted at the University of Florida (Gainesville, FL) were used. Cows were classified according to their BCS at 21 d before calving as fat (BCS ≥ 4.

The free acidity of bracatinga honeydew honey (BHH) was monthly monitored over short-term storage (four months) until all the samples exceeded 50 mEq kg - the maximum value allowed by the international regulatory honey standards. In addition, BHH quality was also investigated through moisture content, water activity, electrical conductivity, pH, 5-hydroxymethylfurfural, and aliphatic organic acids (AOA) analyses. According to our results, most of the parameters investigated presented significant differences during the short storage period studied; however, the quality parameters (except acidity) did not exceed the limits established by the international regulatory honey standards.

This study aimed to evaluate and monitor pesticides in groundwater of the Serra Geral aquifer, located in the Paraná Basin 3 (southern Brazil), using Liquid Chromatography coupled with a Quadrupole-Time-of-Flight Mass Spectrometer (LC-QTOF MS). A total of 117 samples, collected in three different moments, were analyzed over 36 months. Groundwater samples from 35 wells and four surface water points were monitored in each sampling campaign.

Crosslinking mass spectrometry (XL-MS) is a valuable technique for generating point-to-point distance measurements in protein space. However, cell-based XL-MS experiments require efficient software that can detect crosslinked peptides with sensitivity and controlled error rates. Many algorithms implement a filtering strategy designed to reduce the size of the database prior to mounting a search for crosslinks, but concern has been expressed over the possibility of reduced sensitivity using these strategies.

Glycogen synthase kinase 3 (GSK3) remains a therapeutic target of interest for diverse clinical indications. However, one hurdle in the development of small molecule GSK3 inhibitors has been safety concerns related to pan-inhibition of both GSK3 paralogs, leading to activation of the Wnt/β-catenin pathway and potential for aberrant cell proliferation. Development of GSK3α or GSK3β paralog-selective inhibitors that could offer an improved safety profile has been reported but further advancement has been hampered by the lack of structural information for GSK3α.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to analyze public health services for radical prostatectomy by comparing academic versus non-academic hospitals and varying surgery volumes in São Paulo.* -
  • Data gathered from 11,259 surgeries between 2008 and 2018 revealed that although intensive care unit stay and mortality rates were similar across different hospitals, academic centers had shorter hospital stays.* -
  • High-volume hospitals had significantly higher costs of hospitalization compared to low and intermediate-volume centers, indicating a trade-off between volume and cost efficiency.*

The effects of congenital Zika syndrome (CZS) on the tooth development of infected children are not well known. The aim of this study was to analyze the association of CZS with dental alterations in children with microcephaly seen at a referral hospital in Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil. The chronology and sequence of tooth eruption and the presence of dental alterations were evaluated by a single calibrated examiner (kappa > 0.

Objectives: The objective of this study was to evaluate the expression of several cell membrane markers in oral squamous cell carcinomas (OSCC) and to examine their prognostic influence.

Study Design: We analyzed the immunohistochemical expression of claudin-1 (CLDN-1), claudin-4 (CLDN-4), claudin-5 (CLDN-5), claudin-7 (CLDN-7), occludin (OCLN), and E-cadherin (CDHE) in 60 patients with OSCC treated in a central hospital Center of Oporto. The prognostic significance of these biomarkers in cancer-specific survival and recurrence-free survival were evaluated using multivariate analysis.

Introduction: treating benign (hormonally active or nonfunctional) and malignant adrenal cancer includes adrenalectomy. The expertise of surgeons and surgery performed by high-volume surgeons were associated with fewer complications and lower cost. We aimed to describe and compare the number of surgeries, mortality rate, and length of hospital stay for adrenalectomies performed between 2008 and 2019 in the public health system of São Paulo.
