Study of survivin and X-linked inhibitor of apoptosis protein (XIAP) genes in acute myeloid leukemia (AML).

Apoptosis deregulation is important for cancer development, chemotherapy response, and prognosis. Survivin and X-linked inhibitor of apoptosis protein (XIAP) are 2 members of the inhibitor of apoptosis proteins family (IAP). We used semi-quantitative reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) to determine the levels of expression of survivin and XIAP in 30 patients with de novo acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and 20 age- and sex-matched healthy volunteers.

Tissue and serum EGFR as prognostic factors in malignant pleural mesothelioma.

Background: Malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM) is an asbestos related aggressive tumor. Asbestos causes genetic modifications and cell signaling events that favor resistance to chemotherapy. A variety of receptor tyrosine kinases have been identified to play a central role in various aspects of tumorigenesis.

Prognostic value of serum vascular endothelial growth factor in Egyptian females with metastatic triple negative breast cancer.

Objectives: The aim of this work was to explore the value of serum vascular endothelial growth factor-A (VEGF-A) in patients with metastatic triple negative breast cancer (TNBC) treated with chemotherapy. The primary end point was overall survival (OS). Secondary end points were response rate (RR), progression-free survival (PFS) and VEGF-A level at baseline, mid-therapy and at the end of therapy.
