Prosthetic urology can substantially enhance the quality of life for patients. However, it is not without challenges. Infections of penile prostheses and artificial urinary sphincters are often difficult to diagnose, manage, and treat.

Evaluating the Impact of the Standardized Letter of Recommendation on a Successful Match in Urology Residency.

Objective: To evaluate the contribution of the standardized letter of recommendation (SLOR) to the likelihood of matching in urology residency by applying a novel scoring system and characterize utilization in the 2022 application cycle.

Methods: We conducted an investigation of all applicants to our urology residency program during the 2022 cycle. We developed a scoring system to assess SLOR strength across all templates.

Stability of renal parenchymal volume and function during active surveillance of renal oncocytoma patients.

Introduction And Objective: To evaluate whether significant loss in ipsilateral renal parenchymal volume (IRPV) and renal function occurs during active surveillance (AS) of renal oncocytoma (RO) patients.

Methods: Renal function (estimated glomerular filtration rate, eGFR) dynamics were retrospectively analyzed in 32 consecutive biopsy-diagnosed RO patients managed with AS at a National Comprehensive Cancer Network institute. Three-dimensional kidney and tumor reconstructions were generated and IRPV was calculated using volumetry software (Myrian®) for all patients with manually estimated RO growth >+10 cm.

Practical Review of the Current Management of Fournier's Gangrene.

Background: Fournier's gangrene is a fulminant disease. If diagnosed and treated early, mortality can be minimized, but morbidity can still be important with extensive soft tissue defects affecting form and function. We aimed to perform a comprehensive review and provide the current evidenced-based management to treat this condition.

Relocation consequences on an ophthalmology consultation service from an inpatient to outpatient facility.

Importance: This study shows that relocation of an academic ophthalmology residency program from an inpatient to an outpatient setting in western New York does not affect the consult volume but affects management patterns and follow-up rates.

Design: Consultation notes from 3 years before and 3 years after the University at Buffalo's (UB) Department of Ophthalmology relocation from a Regional Level-1 Trauma center (Erie County Medical Center) to an outpatient facility (Ross Eye Institute) were obtained from hospital electronic medical records and analyzed.
