Background: Family caregivers of patients with severe acute brain injury (SABI) are at risk for clinically significant chronic emotional distress, including depression, anxiety, and posttraumatic stress. Existing psychosocial interventions for caregivers of intensive care unit (ICU) patients are not tailored to the unique needs of caregivers of patients with SABI, do not demonstrate long-term efficacy, and may increase caregiver burden. In this study, we explored the needs and preferences for psychosocial services among SABI caregivers to inform the development and adaptation of interventions to reduce their emotional distress during and after their relative's ICU admission.

Patients And Methods: We performed a retrospective cohort study of adult patients admitted to the intensive care unit from January 1, 2006, to December 31, 2015, who received mechanical ventilation for ≥48 h. Extubation failure was defined as the need for reintubation within 72 h after extubation.
Purpose: The purpose of the study was to assess care transitions and caregiver burden among caregivers of individuals with anti-N-methyl-d-aspartate (NMDA) receptor encephalitis (anti-NMDARE).
Methods: Caregivers of individuals with anti-NMDARE were recruited via patient organization websites. Demographic and clinical information as well as responses to the Care Transition Measure 15 (CTM-15) and Zarit Burden Interview (ZBI) were collected.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to assess long-term psychosocial outcomes of anti-N-methyl-d-aspartate (NMDA) receptor encephalitis (anti-NMDARE).
Methods: Adolescents and adults with self-reported anti-NMDARE were invited to complete an online survey distributed by relevant patient organizations. Demographic and clinical information was collected, including the diagnoses initially given for anti-NMDARE symptoms and posthospital care received.
Neuromonitoring is important for patients with acute brain injury. The bedside neurologic examination is standard for neurologic monitoring; however, a clinical examination may not reliably detect subtle changes in intracranial physiology. Changes found during neurologic examinations are often late signs.
