Hypersensitivity reactions to human insulin analogs in insulin-naïve patients: a systematic review.

Objective: The objective of this study was to raise awareness of hypersensitivity reactions to human insulin analogs (HIAs) in insulin-naïve patients and encourage consistent and detailed reporting of HIA reactions.

Data Sources: A search of PubMed, MEDLINE and International Pharmaceutical Abstracts using the terms 'insulin' and 'hypersensitivity' was completed with English language, humans, and publication date after 1 January 1990 as limits.

Study Selection And Data Extraction: The initial search identified 598 articles.

Ocrelizumab: A New B-cell Therapy for Relapsing Remitting and Primary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis.

Objective: To review the pharmacology, pharmacokinetics, efficacy, and safety of ocrelizumab, a new B-cell-targeted therapy for multiple sclerosis (MS).

Data Sources: A comprehensive search of PubMed and OVID/MEDLINE was conducted using search terms ocrelizumab and multiple sclerosis using the date range of 1946 through October 2017.

Study Selection And Data Extraction: All English-language, human-subject articles related to ocrelizumab and MS were evaluated.

Assessing empathy and self-efficacy levels of pharmacy students in an elective diabetes management course.

Objective: To assess the impact of a 6-week patient/provider interaction simulation on empathy and self-efficacy levels of diabetes management skills in third-year pharmacy students.

Design: Pharmacy students enrolled in a diabetes elective course were paired to act as a patient with diabetes or as a provider assisting in the management of that patient during a 6-week simulation activity. After 3 weeks, students switched roles.

Pharmacy management of postoperative blood glucose in open heart surgery patients: evaluation of an intravenous to subcutaneous insulin protocol.

Purpose: To develop and implement a protocol to improve blood glucose (BG) control during transition from intravenous (IV) to subcutaneous (SC) insulin, increase compliance with Surgical Care Improvement Project (SCIP) measures, and decrease sternal wound infections post open heart surgery (OHS).

Methods: An IV to SC protocol was developed and implemented. A retrospective chart review of patients who underwent OHS was conducted from January 2, 2009 to September 30, 2010 (pre protocol) and from October 1, 2010 to December 31, 2011 (post protocol).
