Soft-templated mesoporous carbon is a newer type of carbon biomaterial that has shown potential in drug delivery applications.
Researchers examined the toxicity and biocompatibility of three types of mesoporous carbons by comparing their surface area, pore properties, and conducting various cell experiments.
Results indicated that two carbons were non-cytotoxic with over 90% cell survival, while the one with the highest surface area had slight toxicity; all types exhibited excellent biocompatibility with low protein binding capacity.
