Anterior spinal cord syndrome from a spinal epidural hematoma following removal of an epidural catheter.

Purpose: Spinal epidural hematoma (SEH) is a rare yet significant complication associated with neuraxial anesthesia. Here, we present the case of a 74-yr-old male who underwent open repair of an abdominal aortic aneurysm. Following the removal of an epidural catheter, the patient developed anterior spinal cord syndrome due to an SEH despite having a normal coagulation profile.

Pregnancy in Medical Training: A Survey of Physician Moms on Their Experiences During Residency and Fellowship.

Objective: Resident physicians undergo physically and emotionally rigorous training; this is particularly difficult for the pregnant resident and affects their unborn child. This study aims to elucidate pregnant residents' perspectives regarding their prenatal and postnatal experiences, across all specialties, with a focus on pregnancy complications, postpartum health, and policy execution.

Design: This is a nationwide cross-sectional survey study developed to characterize resident and fellow perceptions about work schedules while pregnant, perceived discrimination, complications during pregnancy, lactation and lactation support, marital distress, parental leave policy, and overall satisfaction with the parental leave period.

Virtual Anesthesiology Medical Student Learning Program Pilot Designed in Response to COVID-19.

Background: This learning opportunity was designed to provide an interactive, virtual, educational anesthesiology program for interested medical students and to offer an opportunity to learn more about an institutional culture through a question and answer (Q&A) with program faculty preceptors for the 2020-2021 anesthesiology residency application cycle. We sought to identify if this virtual learning program was a valuable educational tool through a survey.

Methods: A short Likert-scale survey was sent to medical students before and after participation in a session using REDCap electronic data capture tool.

The Impact of Social Media on Applicants' Perceptions of Plastic Surgery Training Programs.

Objective: Given recent COVID-19 restrictions on in-person visiting subinternships and interviews, this study sought to evaluate the program information that was most influential to future plastic surgery applicants as they researched residency programs on social media.

Design And Setting: An electronic survey targeting medical students interested in plastic surgery was deployed to assess the importance of various information sources in forming perceptions of residency programs. Applicants were invited to participate through an Instagram "Story" (where the survey was embedded) and through an electronic survey link sent via email to interested program applicants and interviewees.
