Introduction: Peroneus brevis flaps provide a viable option to achieve soft tissue coverage in hard-to-heal lower extremity wounds, specifically those to the lateral ankle and hindfoot.

Case Report: The authors present a unique case of a patient with a 20-year-old wound dehiscence complicated by osteomyelitis. The wound was a complication from a lateral extensile incision utilized during prior calcaneal open reduction and internal fixation.

Background: Resident-run clinics provide autonomy and skill development for resident physicians. Many residency programs have such a clinic. No study has been performed investigating the effectiveness of these clinics in podiatric medical residency training.

The Rare Lateral Cuneocuboid Coalition: A Case Report.

Tarsal coalitions typically occur at the talocalcaneal or calcaneonavicular joints. Common findings are pain, limited range of motion, and a pes planus deformity. The focus of this case report includes the presentation, imaging, treatment, and outcomes for a 21-year-old woman diagnosed with a rare lateral cuneocuboid coalition with chronic pain.

Plantar Plate Repair Using a Direct Plantar Approach: An Outcomes Analysis.

Direct plantar plate repair using a plantar approach has been described previously, but with few reports of the outcomes or clinical results. The purpose of the present study was to determine the outcomes of this technique. We performed a retrospective analysis of patients who had undergone direct plantar plate repair with or without concomitant Weil osteotomy and a prospective patient-reported subjective outcomes analysis.

Voiding function in obese and type 2 diabetic female rats.

The effects of obesity and type 2 diabetes (DMII) on the lower urinary tract (LUT) were characterized by evaluating voiding function and anatomy in female Zucker diabetic fatty (ZDF) rats. Age-matched female virgin rats were separated into three experimental groups: Zucker lean rats (control; normal diet, n = 22), ZDF rats (obese+nondiabetic; low-fat diet, n = 22), and ZDF rats (obese+diabetic; high-fat diet, n = 20). Rats were placed on their specified diet for 10 wk before urodynamic LUT evaluation.
