Identification of medication-related fall risk in adults and older adults admitted to hospital: A machine learning approach.

The study aimed to develop and validate, through machine learning, a fall risk prediction model related to prescribed medications specific to adults and older adults admitted to hospital. A case-control study was carried out in a tertiary hospital, involving 9,037 adults and older adults admitted to hospital in 2016. The variables were analyzed using the algorithms: logistic regression, naive bayes, random forest and gradient boosting.

The effects of treatment timing on the management of patients with multiple facial fractures and on the self-perception of TMD recovery.

Objective: To investigate the effects of time on the orofacial functions and on the self-perception of temporomandibular disorders (TMD) recovery in a population of patients with multiple facial fractures.

Methods: Orofacial functions and self-perception of TMD recovery was verified in patients with midface and/or lower face fractures. Patients were divided according to the time between fracture reduction and the clinical assessments: 0-1 month (Group 1), 1-3 months (Group 2), and 15 >3 months (Group 3).

Oral motor and electromyographic characterization of adults with facial fractures: a comparison between different fracture severities.

Objectives:: To characterize the oral motor system of adults with facial injuries and to compare the oral motor performance/function between two different groups.

Methods:: An observational, descriptive, cross-sectional study was conducted in 38 patients presenting with facial trauma who were assigned to the Division of Orofacial Myology of a Brazilian School Hospital. Patients were divided into two groups: Group 1 (G1) consisted of 19 patients who were submitted to open reduction of at least one facial fracture, and Group 2 (G2) consisted of 19 individuals who were submitted to closed fracture reduction with maxillomandibular fixation.

Influence of Insulin Resistance Status on the Development of Gallstones Following Roux-En-Y Gastric Bypass: a Prospective Cohort Study.

Background: The occurrence of gallstones following Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) has been extensively reported. As RYGB promotes improvement in insulin resistance (IR), which is one of the factors enrolled in the pathophysiology of gallstones, this study aims to determine the influence of IR and its post-RYGB course on the development of gallstones.

Methods: This is a prospective cohort study that enrolled 108 morbidly obese subjects free of gallstones which underwent RYGB and were followed up for 24 months, through clinical, laboratory, and ultrasound examinations.

Meningeal tumor: A rare extrahepatic association in patients with polycystic liver disease enrolled for liver transplantation.

In the present study, we described a rare association of polycystic liver disease (PCLD) with intracranial meningiomas in patients included on a liver transplant list, focusing on the diagnosis, treatment and possible association with any genetic alterations. Two female patients, aged 39 and 49 years were included on a liver transplant list due to extensive PCLD, with symptoms related to an abdominal compartmental syndrome. Screening for extrahepatic manifestation revealed a right frontal meningioma in the first patient, and a parietal posterior calcified meningioma in the second patient, measuring 1 and 7×3×2 cm in diameter, respectively.
