Background: Limited information is available about functioning and related impairments of children and adolescents with Cerebral Palsy (CP) in low- and middle-income countries (LMIC) like Brazil. The aim of this study is to describe the characteristics, functioning, and impairments of Brazilian children and adolescents with CP.
Methods: Cross-sectional preliminary study as part of the PartiCipa Brazil multicentered cohort study.
This study aimed at synthesizing the available evidence on the comparative safety and efficacy of antifungal agents for preventing or treating oral candidiasis (OC) in oncologic patients. A systematic review following international recommendations was performed (PROSPERO CRD42024507745). A comprehensive search was conducted in PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science (Feb 2024) to retrieve randomized controlled trials evaluating the clinical effects of antifungal agents in the management of OC in this vulnerable population.

Children with Cerebral palsy (CP) present movement and posture disorders. The Gross Motor Function Classification System (GMFCS), Manual Ability Classification System (MACS), Communication Function Classification System (CFCS), Eating and Drinking Ability Classification System (EDACS), and Visual Function Classification System (VFCS) enhance the understanding of their performance. We verified inter-rater reliability and associations between the classification levels.

To address this, ora-pro-nobis fruits (FE) and leaf extracts (LE) were subjected to in vitro digestion to better understand how this process impacts the bioactivities of the extracts. The study investigated the composition of the extracts, their cytotoxicity, and their chemical, plasmatic, and cellular antioxidant capacity.

Methods: Prospective blinded study, which counted with forty PGY-1 general surgery residents who agreed to participate in the study were blindly recruited to perform a laparoscopic cholecystectomy in a porcine model. At the end of the procedure, the participants assigned a score of 0-10 for their own performance and the video of the operation was independently assessed by 2 experienced laparoscopic surgeons using a validated tool.
Dimethyl fumarate (DMF, Tecfidera) is an oral drug utilized to treat relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis (MS). DMF treatment reduces disease activity in MS. Gastrointestinal discomfort is a common adverse effect of the treatment with DMF.

Epileptic seizures can be initiated and facilitated by inflammatory mechanisms. As the dysregulation of the immune system would be involved in epileptogenesis, it is suggested that anti-inflammatory medications could impact epileptic seizures.

Researchers have underscored that distinguishing from other species within the same genus relies primarily on craniometric and molecular analyses. Morphological measurements alone do not offer a clear differentiation between and other members of this genus.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFOxidative/nitrosative damage takes part in chronic disease development, which generates an urgent need for intervention and better therapies to manage them. The scientific community has demanded easy-to-run, cheap, and reliable methods for cellular antioxidant activity assays. This work standardised and validated an erythrocyte cellular antioxidant activity and membrane protection/injury (HERYCA-P) protocol to study food-derive extracts.

Following the COVID-19, there are shifts in biomarker and cytokine equilibrium associated with altered physiological processes arising from viral damage or aggressive immunological response. We hypothesized that high daily dose methylprednisolone improved the injury biomarkers and serum cytokine profiles in COVID-19 patients.

During this process, the participation of molecules produced by innate immunity cells in response to a variety of pathogen-associated molecular patterns and damage-associated molecular patterns is observed. However, chronic inflammation is intrinsically associated with leukemogenesis, as it induces DNA damage in hematopoietic stem cells and contributes to the creation of the preleukemic clone.

Methods: The cross-sectional study included 97 families who responded to the Affordances in the Home Environment for Motor Development - Infant Scale (AHEMD-IS) for 3-18 months (n=63), or AHEMD - Self-Report (AHEMD-SR) for 18-42 months (n=34). The Mann-Whitney U test was used to identify the differences between the frequencies of affordances between the groups.
Globalization has raised concerns about spreading diseases and emphasized the need for quick and efficient methods for drug screening. Established drug efficacy and toxicity approaches have proven obsolete, with a high failure rate in clinical trials. Organ-on-a-chip has emerged as an essential alternative to outdated techniques, precisely simulating important characteristics of organs and predicting drug pharmacokinetics more ethically and efficiently.

The directional interaction of molecules of water can be a prototype to understand the effects of HBs on biomolecules. Among the neurotransmitters (NT), L-aspartic acid (ASP) stands out due to its importance in health and as a precursor of several biomolecules.

The development of mucinous adenocarcinoma in perianal fistulas in patients with CD is rare and, consequently, few reports exist in the literature.
Case Presentation: We report the case of a 71-year-old man diagnosed 22 years ago with CD with perineal involvement, who came with complaints of intense perianal pain, a gluteal mass, and local bleeding.
