Article Synopsis
  • The modified early warning score (mEWS) is used to detect deteriorating patients in critical care, with the study focusing on its impact on neurosurgical patient outcomes and costs.
  • A retrospective analysis of 1,408 patients revealed that higher maximum mEWS correlated with longer hospital stays, worse discharge outcomes, increased mortality rates, and higher hospitalization costs.
  • Machine learning models predicted patient outcomes effectively, suggesting that integrating the mEWS with other clinical factors could enhance patient care in neurosurgery.
