Podocytes are specialized cells within the glomerular filtration barrier, which are crucial for maintaining glomerular structural integrity and convective ultrafiltration. Podocytes exhibit a unique arborized morphology with foot processes interfacing by slit diaphragms, ladder-like, multimolecular sieves, which provide size and charge selectivity for ultrafiltration and transmembrane signaling. Podocyte dysfunction, resulting from oxidative stress, dysregulated prosurvival signaling, or structural damage, can drive the development of proteinuria and glomerulosclerosis in hypertensive nephropathy.

Three-dimensional (3D) technologies have emerged in medicine as valuable tools in different settings including innovation and surgical planning. Three-dimensional facial scanning could add value to clinical measurements and two-dimensional models to assess the airway.

Developing a comprehensive and generic schema for characterization of the aorta to enable investigators to standardize data that are collected across all aorta research. A systematic review of the literature was conducted to identify and assess schemata of aortic measurement and description.

After a step-wise examination protocol, we used simultaneous orthogonal plane imaging to obtain the short-axis view of the pulmonic valve (PV) and assessed flow in both images simultaneously using color Doppler imaging in 100 consecutive patients undergoing intraoperative TEE. Our goals were to assess the ability of this technique to visualize all 3 leaflets of the PV, assess feasibility of planimetry to measure valve area, and assess flow using color Doppler imaging.
